Western Mass Weather 7pm 2/13/19 update

SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS CONTINUE THIS EVENING, ESPECIALLY OVER THE HIGH TERRAIN… SOME ADDITIONAL LIGHT ACCUMS OF A COATING OR SO POSSIBLE… BLACK ICE FORMS EVERYWHERE AS TEMPS DROP INTO THE LOW 20s BY MORNING… A SWEET THURSDAY LEADS TO MIXED RAIN AND SNOW SHOWERS LATE THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY… PRETTY NICE WEEKEND COMING UP… MORE STORMINESS BY MID NEXT WEEK… (7pm Wed)

Good evening everybody, it’s been a convective, snow showery day today, dumping snow for a bit, sunny the next, cloudy soon after, light snow here and there, some coatings, quite variable indeed. This is thanks to the wide field of instability associated with our parent low as it drifts northeast into southeast Canada and drags these snow showers with it as it goes.

SUMMARY
–We will cool down and land in the low 20s, which will produce black ice and slick conditions by morning, so be alert
–In addition, snow showers in scattered fashion will continuein the higher terrain towns, while waning in the valley locations. Some coatings possible.
–Tomorrow sees a nosey nudge of high pressure, which will produce partly sunny skies and highs into the low to mid 30s
–Thursday night we cloud back up, as a low pressure system passes WELL north of us, as in well north of the eastern Great Lakes for Friday
–This keeps this northern piece separate from southern energy, so they will NOT become fast friends, and we will get a frontal passage (i.e. weaker system)
–This should start as snow showers or a period of snow during the pre-dawn hours of Friday morning
–Then, before the front moves through, snow will turn to rain showers, and we will warm well into the 40s for highs
–The cold front passes through by Friday night, and we drop into the mid 20s for lows
–A weak system looks to bring light snow to the MId-Atlantic, but should stay south of us on Saturday
–Expect partly sunny skies with highs in the mid 30s and lows in the teens
–Another slightly stronger system will make a more northerly track toward us for Sunday night into Monday morning
–Sunday highs should reach the low to mid 30s, with clouds building in Sunday night and lows in the teens
–A period of light snow will be possible Sunday night into Monday, with the best chance of snow along and south of the Pike in southwestern MA and northern CT
–Tuesday looks mostly sunny before we have to deal with another wintry storm in this active pattern. Too soon to know if we’re all snow or mixed, but based on this winter, and a strong SE ridge, mix is more likely
