SNOW SHOWERS MOVING INTO THE TACONICS, BERKSHIRES, LITCHFIELDS, SOUTHERN GREENS AND WESTERN HILLTOWNS AS OF 9AM… VERY COLD TONIGHT FOLLOWED BY ACCUMULATING SNOW TOMORROW NIGHT INTO EARLY TUESDAY MORNING… SNOW CHANGES TO ICE/RAIN SHOWERS TUESDAY BEFORE LIGHTENING UP… MORE SNOW SHOWERS WEDNESDAY FOR THE HIGH TERRAIN…
(9:05am Sun)
Good morning everybody, I hope you saw my report last night about the black ice potential, and hope it didn’t crimp your style too much overnight and early this morning.
SUMMARY
–A shortwave is diving southeast through New England ahead of some incoming colder air tonight
–In response, an area of mixed snow and rain showers are moving into the Taconics and Berkshires as I type
–Some very light accumulations are possible, maybe a coating to an inch in spots
–It will be mostly cloudy today with highs in the mid 30s to near 40 degrees, with temps falling this afternoon and evening
–Northwest winds will gust to 30mph or so at times today as colder air moves into the region
–Lows will crater into the single digits in the high terrain and teens in the valley
–Monday looks cold and partly sunny with clouds increasing during second half of the day
–Monday highs will generally reach the 25-30 degree range with lows in the low 20s with dry air in place
–A warm front will extend well east of its parent low over the Great Lakes and get a bit sheared out
–However, it will focus some lift and moisture over our region, resulting in the onset of snow around midnight
–1″ to 4″ is possible in the northern Berkshires, SVT/Greens, and westernmost Hampshire and Franklin Counties, with a coating to an inch or so in the Litchfields, southern Berkshires and westernmost Hampden County hilltowns before we change to rain Tuesday morning, and/or before the precip lightens
–Any sleet, freezing rain or rain Tuesday lightens and we should go into a lull during the afternoon with highs in the upper 30s
–However, another wave of low pressure develops behind this event, and should pass right over WMass
–This will bring more mixed rain and snow to the region, and additional light accumulations are possible over the high terrain through Wednesday early afternoon
–Northwest winds gust again on Wednesday, up to 30mph at times
–Thursday through Saturday looks to be full-on winter cold with highs descending from the 30s Thursday into the 20s Friday and Saturday with lows in the teens and even single digits at night
–A storm signal exists for early next week but this upcoming cold snap may suppress storm track to our south. More on that as we get closer.
Have a great day!
