A FEW RAIN OR SNOW SHOWERS TOMORROW EVENING ALONG/SOUTH OF THE MASSPIKE INTO NORTHERN CT, OTHERWISE WE WAIT UNTIL SATURDAY EVENING FOR A QUICK ICY ONSET THAT CHANGES TO PLAIN RAIN BY SUNRISE ON SUNDAY MORNING… COLDER AIR MOVES IN BEHIND… MID-WEEK COASTAL SYSTEM BEARS WATCHING, NOT VERY LIKELY TO AFFECT US, THOUGH… NEXT WEEKEND SHOWS SIGNAL FOR MAJOR SNOWSTORM… (7pm Thurs)
Good evening everybody, the photos that keep coming in from southern VT and the high terrain of WMass is something else. Incredible snowfall totals for November.
Tonight’s report will be quick:
–Winds die down tonight as our storm pulls further away
–Lows will drop into the 20s as skies clear out a bit
–For tomorrow, any morning sunny breaks will lead to cloudiness increasing
–A weak system moves through the flow and dives south of us tomorrow evening
–While there is some moisture, there isn’t much lift, so a few light rain or snow showers are possible
–A coating isn’t out of the question for the high terrain of Litchfield County, but unlikely
–Highs tomorrow will reach the upper 30s and lows will dip into the low to mid 20s
–For Saturday, we should enjoy mostly sunny skies for the first half of the day, with clouds late
–Highs will reach the low 40s before the clouds arrive
–Low pressure tracks northwest of our region, and extends a warm front toward New England
–Cold-enough air in the high terrain given sunset and thick snow pack could cause freezing rain to develop at onset between 7-10pm
–Enough of a southerly flow should push milder air north and turn us all over to rain by Sunday’s sunrise
–Sunday looks like a mild day, with some scattered showers lingering in the afternoon and evening, after the rain shield moves through Sunday morning
–Highs will be in the mid to upper 40s with lows in the low 40s
–Monday is the final mild day with partly sunny skies and highs in the upper 40s, a good looking day for some outdoor activities or work, at the moment
–Tuesday/Wednesday is a time to watch for coastal storm development, but any impacts are more likely to be relegated to coastal areas
–Cold air moves in by mid week with highs only in the 30s, and this lasts into next weekend
–A signal continues to show up for a major winter storm by next weekend, so I will keep tabs on it and keep you updated
Have a great night!

THE MILDENING SLOWLY DEVELOPS THROUGH THE WEEKEND, THEN THE COLDENING RE-ESTABLISHES ITSELF NEXT WEEK… RAIN SATURDAY NIGHT MAY START AS FREEZING RAIN IN THE HIGH TERRAIN SNOW-COVERED AREAS… WATCHING A WINTRY COASTAL STORM POTENTIAL FOR NEXT TUES/WED…
(6:25am Thurs)
Good morning everybody, it sure sounds and looks like the Berkshires and hill towns are a wintry wonderland. I wouldn’t know it from being a flatlander in the valley, that’s for sure.
Anyway, the upslope snow machine (which I’m starting to glean is WMass’ version of New York’s lake effect snow machine, even though they are different processes) is turning off today as the associated lift and moisture exit stage right *insert Bugs Bunny scram sound here*.
For today, wouldn’t you know it, we should just have a partly to mostly sunny day with highs 35-40. However, as the low departs, and high pressure moves in, the pressure gradient between the two will cause a northwest wind to gust to 25mph at times. Lows tonight will dip into the low 20s under mostly clear skies as high pressure continues to float over us.
For Friday, we should start off mostly sunny, but clouds will increase as the day wears on and a weakening disturbance may bring a few rain or snow showers. #NoBigWhoop Highs will be in the upper 30s with lows in the upper 20s.
For Saturday, we start off partly sunny and highs will be in the mid to upper 30s. However, clouds will build in again, and this time, a more organized system will once again cut to the west of our region, putting us on the warm side of the system.
While this storm looks fairly run of the mill, it will bring a half inch to an inch of rain to the region Saturday night into the first half of Sunday.
It will also likely start as freezing rain the Berkshires, western hilltowns and SVT late Saturday night and cause slippery road conditions before changing to rain Sunday morning, so stay tuned.
For Sunday, we rain early, then dry out with time during the afternoon and evening though a few showers are possible. Highs and lows will be in the low to mid 40s so it will be mild. Yay!
Monday starts to get colder, then we watch for Tues/Wed timeframe, as a coastal storm that could simply pass out to sea to our south may be drawn north and bring snow to the region. Cold air follows after either way.
I know, I can feel the love pouring out of all of you regarding this news. The love glow is strong in this crew.
Have a great day!
