–This has the potential to produce a steadier area of precipitation, either rain or snow showers
–If it lasts into the night, the hilltowns and Berkshires up into SVT/SWNH could see some light snow accumulation
–It will get noticeably colder behind this system for Wednesday night into Friday, with lows Wednesday night in the low 20s
–Thursday is looking blustery, partly sunny, and cold with highs in the 30s to near 40º, with lows in the upper teens to low 20s!
–Winds could gust 25-40mph Thursday into Thursday night, so if you have plans, bundle up
–Friday looks sunnier with less wind and milder temps with highs in the upper 30s to mid 40s
–Clouds will increase at night as we turn our attention to our south
–Uncertainty remains around how our upper trough, and two surface low pressure areas (one in the northern stream and one in the southern stream) will interact, phase, or not organize together
–If they do come together, a coastal storm with snow, ice and rain would impact us here in the WMass region Friday night into Saturday, so please stay tuned
–Otherwise, Sunday looks like the weekend pick with mostly sunny skies and cool highs either side of 40º as seasonable temps return to our hills and dales

YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning everybody, the first part of this week will be influenced by a large upper trough that will swing through southeast Canada and the northeast U.S.
This will help ensure we generally experience west to northwest flow and breezy conditions with more seasonable to slightly below average temperature regimes, the details of which are up in the Nutshell section.
Temps in the 50s are in the rearview mirror for now as we settle into the 30s and 40s through the next week at least with lows in the 20s to low 30s at times.
Clouds will bubble each afternoon due to much colder air aloft, set on top of a daily mildening at the surface, which will steepen the temperature gradient from surface to sky (known as “lapse rate”), allow for rising air, and cumulus cloud development with some darker-gray cloud bellies.
A few may drop a rain or a snow shower depending on time of afternoon or evening, and elevation.
By Wednesday, a shortwave swings through with a cold front and should produce more widespread rain and snow showers by afternoon and evening, and an inch or two of light snow may accumulate in some high elevation areas by Wednesday night as a cold front swings through.
Gusts of 15-25mph earlier in the week, will pick up to 25-40mph by Thursday as some folks struggle to get above the freezing mark for high temps in the high terrain.
Thursday night lows may even dip into the teens for some!
We moderate a touch on Friday, but clouds will be increasing at night as the potential for a phasing coastal storm still exists.
Again, with the way this winter has gone, it probably won’t come together, but if it does, all precip types are on the table, and elevated areas could see accumulating snow and ice Friday night into Saturday before we end the weekend with a lovely, mostly sunny day.
All this to say, stay tuned for updates!
Have a great day, and if you’re able and want to see my work continue here throughout 2024, it’s your modest support that keeps me on this job for you and yours (options include Cards, PayPal, Venmo, or Check, even $10 helps!)
>>> BE KIND <<<
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
–Kurt Vonnegut
