YOUR WEEKLY WEATHER NUTSHELL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
–Final rain showers with the storm itself are sweeping northeast through the WMass region this early morning
–Flood Warnings are active for the Mill River at Florence through noon today, so avoid flood prone areas related to the Mill on Meadow St.
–Mostly cloudy with some glimpses of sunshine with high temps in the low 40s to low/mid 50s south of the Pike, then falling as colder air works into the region
–Cold air is ushered in by gusty southwest winds (usually a warm wind direction, but not so with this wrapped up low center!)
–Wind Advisories are up for far western parts of the region, and gusts generally should reach 25-40mph, becoming a bit blustery late
–Some upslope Berkshire/SVT snow showers expected later afternoon, new coatings possible
–Lows mid to upper 20s tonight, mostly cloudy, a few flurries well west of the I-91 corridor, winds slacken later
–Thursday is partly to mostly sunny, highs mid 30s to low 40s, snow showers again in the Berkshires and SVT with a cold front, an inch or two possible, lows low to mid 20s
–Friday looks like a sweet copy of Thursday, highs mid 30s to low 40s, sunshine, but clouds build late
–Clouds thicken at night, and our next storm pushes snow and rain into the region around midnight
–Any snow changes to rain by Saturday morning, heavy at times, with gusty wind possible
–Temps spike once more into the 40s to low 50s with southeast wind gusts up to 40mph, and rain quits by afternoon sometime
–A powerful cold front sweeps the region, dropping temps to near 20º Saturday night
–Blustery and cold on Sunday lasting through all of next week as Arctic air slips east out of the center U.S. into New England
–Monday is sunny and cold, and Tuesday could produce another snowstorm, so stay tuned and get ready for winter weather next week
YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning everybody, thanks very much for all of the reports and pics yesterday, lots of sky activity with sunrises, snow, sleet, rain, some wind (though thankfully way less), and some flooding issues, though also thankfully way less than it could have been, as heavier rain was shunted south and east.

We got plenty of rain, especially for January, with about 1-3″ across the region, but more like 2.5-5″ fell south and east in CT, RI and EMass.

For snow, we got some healthy coatings even the central and northern Pioneer Valley with up to half a foot in the northern Berkshires reported. If anyone got more than 6″ of snow, please let me know (I’m looking at you, high peaks of southern VT).

Temps are mild this morning, but didn’t get mild enough quick enough to allow the strong winds overhead to mix down to the surface the way they could have, so timing was off by several hours, which is GOOD.

This helped prevent more numerous outages that could have caused bigger problems.

As we move forward, it may seem and in fact be windier today for many of us than it was last night.

As our intense storm tracks northeast into Canada, it has wrapped colder air around its western and southern inflow regions, and this colder air will sweep through out of the SOUTHWEST (usually a warm direction, but not today) and cause gusts to kick up to 25-40mph later this morning and through the afternoon and evening.

We’ll get glimpses of sun, but clouds should rule most of the day with highs in the 40s to low 50s early, and falling back through the day to lows in the 20s tonight, with black ice developing in spots due to refreezing.

We’ll also see some snow showers in the Berkshires, Taconics and SVT later this afternoon and evening due to some lake effect plumes.

For Thursday, a cooler day arrives compared to today, with highs in the mid 30s to low 40s. A cold front will approach, and produce some more snow showers later in the day in the Berkshires and SVT with up to an inch or two in SVT possible by Thursday night, with lows in the 20s, again with some black ice in spots.

Friday looks sunny and beautiful, with highs in the mid 30s to low 40s, but clouds will build in late in the day.

It won’t be of the same potency, but a fairly identical storm system and setup will develop to our west Friday night, and push more snow and rain into our region late Friday night and into the early afternoon on Saturday.

Rain will fall heavily at times after a couple inches of high terrain wet snow and temps will spike into the 40s and low 50s for one more day.

A cold front will then sweep the region later Saturday, and we will be moving into a prolonged WINTER cold pattern with highs in the 20s and 30s and lows in the single digits and teens throughout next week.

Sunday looks blustery, too, with windy conditions as Arctic air seeps into the region. At least it looks sunny Sunday and Monday.

Thereafter, we have two more potential snowstorms for Tuesday and next Friday, but those are a ways off and not guaranteed, just monitoring for now.

Have a great day!

>>> BE KIND <<<
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
