YOUR WEEKLY WEATHER NUTSHELL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
–Patchy dense fog in southern MA and northern CT this morning, burns off later
–A few pre-frontal showers affect only a few of us this morning (central/northern Berkshires as of 7am)
–Otherwise, we’re drying with partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies with mild highs in the 40s to low 50s
–A cold front swings through the region and drops our temps tonight to either side of 30º
–In addition, some upslope snow showers likely develop in SVT, the Berkshires, far NW CT, and the W.Hilltowns
–Tuesday through Thursday gets progressively colder
–Highs mid 30s to low 40s Tuesday, then 30s for Wednesday and Thursday, lows in the teens and 20s
–Tuesday night into Wednesday may see an inverted trough setup to our east, and interact with a passing wave to generate some scattered snow showers
–Otherwise, we’re dry mid week through Saturday with partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies at times
–Temps become milder late week into the weekend, rising into the 40s ahead of another storm system
–This storm system looks to crank up to our west, and could send heavy rain into our region with some wind, but before we talk details let’s check a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, with their newest location in the Stop & Shop Plaza on King Street in Northampton, MA.
YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning people of the Earth Humus (a/k/a humans), arise and burp!
Er, I mean… arise and seize the day! It just so happens that it’s the only day that you’re guaranteed to have if you awoke to it, and even then, it’s the only part of the day that you’re guaranteed in this ephemeral life, so hopefully we can find something good about it in our immediate vicinity, or somewhere *out there*.
If you’re blessed enough to have facial muscles that operate properly, you can always raise your ‘brows, I find that that is a good place to start.
As for our weather, there isn’t much impact on the table until a week from now when a major windswept rainstorm may crank up to our west, and push a ton of moisture our way with much milder air (as in highs well into the 50s for a day on Sunday) and some wind, too, but I digress.
For today, we’re on the waning side of yesterday’s rain event, which also brought accumulating snow to far northwest MA, SVT and parts of SWNH, with a full-on snowstorm in northern New England, still ongoing in eastern NH and Maine.
We’re left with patchy dense fog, mostly in Hampden County, southern Worcester County and northern CT, and a few showers pushing into the central/northern Berkshires this morning.
That activity should be on the wane as well with visibility improvements later this morning, and an overall drying trend as a cold front approaches the region.
Air will be cooling aloft, and so we should see a mostly cloudy day with some sunny breaks, but cloud development will be encouraged by this setup.
Highs will peak into the 40s to low 50s today, and then drop behind the front down into the mid 20s to low 30s tonight with some scattered Berkshire/Taconics/SVT snow showers, that may drift into the western hilltowns or northern Litchfield County CT as well. A few dustings can’t be ruled out, either.
For Tuesday, any morning snow showers should dissipate, and we’ll be cooler with northwest flow and highs mid 30s to low 40s under partly sunny skies.
The combination of a passing shortwave, and the inverted trough extending northward off of a system well south and out to sea may combine to produce snow showers Tuesday night into Wednesday across our region, with potential for an onshore ocean effect snow setup that could coat the ground in far eastern CT and southeast CMass.
Lows Tuesday night drop to the mid to upper 20s with highs in the 30s on Wednesday under mostly cloudy skies.
After lows in the teens Wednesday night, fair weather develops with incoming high pressure. Partly sunny skies should develop and after highs in the 30s Thursday, we should see an increase in temps rising into the 40s for Friday and Saturday with dry conditions, and then the 50s by Sunday.
Sunday’s mild bump will likely be due to a potent storm system cranking up through the Great Lakes to our west and driving a strong southerly punch of moist air right into New England.
This should increase the chance for showers beginning sometime Sunday afternoon or early evening, and then heavy rain will be possible Sunday night into Monday.
Stay tuned for updates, and I hope you have a great day!
>>> BE KIND <<<
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
–Kurt Vonnegut
