YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning folks, I hope you slept well, and I hope you’re ready for a wintry blast, because today is the day!
A lake effect snow band survived the long trip from Lake Ontario over NY state to coat the ground for some of us overnight with snow and graupel, depending on where you were.
More scattered lake effect snow showers which may graupel are expected later as a VERY cold pool of air aloft moves overhead and steepens our lapse rates (i.e. the temperature gradient from milder surface to colder sky, comparatively speaking) which will allow to air to rise robustly and produce clouds and some snow showers.
This is also tied to a disturbance moving through this setup, so I do expect some periods of snow scattered about, and fresh coatings up to half an inch or so are possible.
Highs will only reach the mid 20s to mid 30s today from north to south, so bundle up, because we’ll also be dealing with northwesterly wind gusts of 20-30mph, especially as that wave moves through this afternoon with some snow showers.
Lows tonight drop into the teens and with continued breezy conditions, some wind chills may dip into the single digits — it’s a wintry 24 hours, peeps!
Wednesday is cold as well, and breezy, but no snow showers are expected, save for an isolated one here or there, but not like today. Highs will be in the 30s with lows in the 20s as wind turns southwest.
High pressure builds in on Thursday with a lovely late Autumn day expected. Highs should reach the low to mid 40s under mostly sunny skies, with lows either side of 30º.
On Friday, I’ll be watching a quick moving, fairly weak storm system tracking east-northeast out of the Ohio Valley and set to run through southern New England with rain showers by afternoon into the evening, and ending by Saturday morning.
Highs will climb into the mid to upper 40s with lows near freezing.
Saturday is the pick of the weekend, with partly sunny skies developing as brief ridging moves in between storm systems. Highs will climb into the low to mid 40s with a lighter north wind, and by Sunday, highs will be a bit cooler, only reaching the upper 30s to low 40s with clouds potentially increasing by afternoon.
It is the Sunday night into Monday night timeframe that must be monitored, as a more potent storm system may combine with an incoming upper trough and produce a larger rain storm that may produce some snow north of the MassPike.
We’re moving into early December, and there are signals of some North Atlantic ridging setting up which would block or slow storms down, as well as potentially help keep some cold air in place over us, so for now we watch to see if any winter signals develop.
The pattern could support such setups. Have a great day, and if you’d like to support my work today on GivingTuesday, just click this secure link, and thanks!
>>> BE KIND <<<
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
–Kurt Vonnegut
