YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning everybody, our old-and-in-the way upper low departs east today, but leaves us with some parting clouds and a few spot showers mainly south of the Pike as we say goodbye to each other.
Highs will reach the mid 50s to low 60s with a light and variable wind, and lows tonight will dip into the upper 30s to mid 40s under partly cloudy skies.
Tomorrow is definitely the pick of the week with highs well into the 60s under mostly sunny skies with light south wind.
Clouds will start to gather Thursday night with lows in the 40s, and then we’ll be looking to our west as several atmospheric players team up to produce a wet and windy weekend across the greater WMass region, with a showery Friday appetizer to kick off all the impending weekend fun!
By Friday, we’ll be watching a primary already-formed storm system tracking east into the Great Lakes region with an associated deepening, large upper low and trough which will extend from the Great Lakes down into the central Appalachians.
The surface low is a more compact feature, whereas the upper trough is a very large area of lower-than-average pressure aloft a few miles above our heads.
This trough will be sweeping from a positive to neutral to negative tilt, or axis orientation, and when that happens near the east coast, you tend to get secondary surface lows that are spawned anywhere from the Carolinas up to the northern Mid-Atlantic, and this one will get going near the southern Mid-Atlantic coastline and track northeast into New England Saturday.
Ahead of this development, we’ll get the warm frontal showers to start things off with a few showers Friday morning, but more numerous showers will develop by Friday afternoon and night.
Friday highs will be in the 60s and humidity will be increasing and lows will only sit down into the low 50s.
The bulk of the system moves through Saturday and shuts off sometime Saturday evening or night, with rain expected, heavy at times. There might be lulls mixed in, and it may present in a showery fashion, but I will try to refine that as we get closer.
Highs on Saturday will be in the 60s, and lows will be in the 40s as our progressive, deepening storm keeps on truckin’ northeast into Maine and southeast Canada.
By Sunday, our storm is STILL getting cranked up, while high pressure moves in from the west, creating a pressure gradient and gusty northwest winds of 25-45mph at times. Skies will be partly sunny with a few showers possible, and highs in the upper 40s to mid 50s.
Lows will drop into the mid 30s to low 40s, and some patchy frost will be possible, in addition to first snow showers for some folks in southern VT and the Berkshires!
Monday is COOL with highs only in the mid 40s to low 50s, and then our first widespread frost is looking increasingly likely with lows in the upper 20s to mid 30s, so #PlantPeople: you have been warned!
High pressure will build through the region Tuesday through Thursday with fair weather expected next week and high temps increasing by late week.
Have a great day!
>>> BE KIND <<<
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
–Kurt Vonnegut
