YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning everybody, I hope folks got soak up some of those summer vibes this week, as they have left the building with some of us lucky to crack the 70º mark today, and zero chance of that happening this weekend or even the first half of next week.
For today, we have patchy fog in some spots, mainly in southern parts of WMass and northern CT. It didn’t become more widespread as light wind kept up overnight and mixed the air, which kept it milder and well into the 50s, so less of a fog issue than yesterday morning.
Any fog will burn off and reveal a mostly cloudy day trending overcast with highs in the 60s to low 70s as an upper level low slowly tracks east through the Great Lakes region.
We should only see some drizzle patches or periods of widely scattered light rain showers, with some folks staying mostly dry, and this should continue into this evening before more numerous showers arrive later tonight and into Saturday morning.
Our upper level low has an associated cold front with it, and to the east and ahead of that front (where we are located) is where increased moisture will be drawn northward tonight and through Saturday, along with Tropical Storm Phillipe which is forecast to stay east of southern New England, but take a NNW hook into coastal Maine somewhere between Penobscot Bay and the SW tip of Nova Scotia.
While Phillipe doesn’t have any direct impacts to the greater WMass region, it is part of an increased moisture surge that will indirectly help develop rainfall over our region, mostly tomorrow and with the heaviest rainfall expected along and/or west of the CT River Valley.
The exact stripe of heaviest south-to-north rain banding is uncertain for where it exactly sets up, but with southeast flow off of the ocean, increased moisture in general, an upper level low drawing closer and a cold front drawing closer at the surface will produce more numerous and heavier showers by Saturday afternoon and leaving by midnight, possibly increasing earlier Saturday morning.
Highs will only reach the 60s, and anywhere from half an inch up up to 2″ or so of rain are expected, with the lower range over northeast CT and CMass, and perhaps parts of eastern Cheshire County NH.
Lows Saturday night will dip into the 40s to low 50s as westerly winds pick up behind the front after midnight and into Sunday morning.
Sunday looks partly sunny, blustery, and cool with highs only reaching the 50s to low 60s with a few instability showers possible in the afternoon.
Westerly winds will gust 25-35mph, so Autumn will be making its arrival known to the hills dales of western MA and surrounding counties!
Winds should die down at night and lows will drop to the mid 30s to low 40s, so some frost is possible in SVT and SWNH, and perhaps far northwest MA.
Monday and Tuesday look to continue the partly sunny, partly showery theme as an upper low over the Great Lakes sits and spins and sends some impulses through, the next one of any note being on Tuesday afternoon and evening when a wave of showers might waft through.
Highs both days will be in the 50s to low 60s with lows in the upper 30s to mid 40s.
By mid week, we should bust out into some more sunshine with highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s, but it does look like we may have some more following-weekend wet weather with which to contend, but it’s a long way off and I will keep you updated.
Make no mistake, Autumn conditions will be elbowing their way into the region by next week, so you might want to start putting away some more of those summer clothes.
Have a great day!
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
