Western Mass Regional Weather for July 25, 2023

>>> DAVE’S WEEKLY WEATHER NUTSHELL <<< --Patchy fog burns off this morning --A partly sunny day on average is expected with periods of clouds mixed in --An upper level trough sweeps into the region and sets the stage for afternoon and early evening scattered showers and thunderstorms --Some storms may produce hail or strong wind gusts, along with heavy rain --Humidity will increase today through the rest of the week --High pressure builds tomorrow through end of week, and establishes conditions for a potential heat wave sometime in the Wed-Sat timeframe --Wednesday looks rain-free, humid and hot --Thursday is looking more likely to produce strong to severe weather, so this is my biggest concern right now --A strong squall line may form ahead of substantial instability and humidity, and bring with it fairly strong wind shear and an air mass that is buoyant, so all hazards are on the table for Thursday afternoon, so please check back for updates --Hot and humid Thursday and Friday with Heat Advisories possible --Heat breaks on Saturday with some showers and storms ahead of a cold front, with a nicer Sunday and early next week outlook in the cards, but before we talk details let's check a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, with their newest location in the Stop & Shop Plaza on King Street in Northampton, MA. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ >>> A NOTE FROM OUR SPONSOR <<< Dave Hayes The Weather Nut is Sponsored by Individual Community Members, Patrons & Tandem Bagel Company... >>> MORNING DISCUSSION <<< Good morning everybody, we're basically in the process of gathering humidity, heat and energy together over New England through the next 5 days, culminating on Saturday, which will result in 3 more potential thunderstorm periods this afternoon, Thursday afternoon, and on Saturday before a cold front sweeps this hot and humid morass out to sea. Between now and then, we will see some areas of flash flooding resume, and I also believe that by Thursday midnight (going into Friday) we could see some wind damage in a couple of areas as a strong/severe squall line is shaping up for Thursday afternoon, especially north of the Pike, whereas today we'll see isolated to scattered storms and showers impact more southern areas, south of the Rt. 2 corridor, for the most part. Everyone gets in on the act Saturday as a cold front gathers up and focuses the remaining heat energy and moisture and turns it into more showers/storms, and pushes off the coastline. Highs will reach the low to mid 80s today, the mid to upper 80s Wednesday, the mid 80s to low 90s Thursday, the upper 80s to mid 90s on Friday, and the 85-90º range on Saturday with lows in the 60s tonight and tomorrow night, and the mid 60s to low 70s Thursday and Friday night. Light southerly to southwesterly winds will be the rule this week, unless of course you find yourself in any strong to severe storms which could cause isolated damaging wind gusts in spots, less so today (though still possible, along with some hail) with a better chance for damaging wind gusts Thursday afternoon, larger hail, and even a weak tornado. By Sunday, we clear things out, and should see a reduction in heat and humidity with partly to mostly sunny skies Sunday and Monday with highs in the 75-80º range. Have a great day, and I will update you later this afternoon... Have a great day! >>> BE KIND <<< “Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you've got to be kind.” --Kurt Vonnegut
