>>> WEATHER DISCUSSION <<< Folks, I hope things go your way today, and that the sun shines on your plans, your people, and your places, and that you feel good in your body today, even if only for a short spell. In that regard, at least for this writer, the looooooong stretch of drier air masses through the Spring has been most welcome, given that many previous Springs saw (after a bit of an extended winter cool pattern) a rush into very warm to hot and humid air masses by now. We've had a good run this year, but that run is coming to a sticky end as we're finally seeing high pressure that was over Maine earlier this week tracking now into the Gulf of Maine and continuing southeast, which means it's going to be southeast of New England. Uh, so what Dave? Well, that means a few things, one of which is that that blocking high as part of a transient Rex Block pattern that kept the southeastern U.S. upper low pressure system south of us will be out of the way, and that system will now bob north and then northeast towards our region, increasing shower, downpour and t-storm chances starting tomorrow evening, but more so over the weekend into next week. Secondly, that will allow our temps to come up well into the 70s to low 80s, with lows in the low to mid 60s for many days to come, starting tomorrow. Thirdly/lastly, with high pressure in that position, it will induce moist southerly flow to surge into New England starting tomorrow and peaking over the weekend into early next week, which means dew point temps will come up well into the 60s and low 70s, which is something we haven't dealt really since last Summah! In addition, that level of humidity / moisture will create efficient rain drop production, meaning that when it does shower, it's more likely than not to be heavy at times, with downpours in the mix. To back up, we're dry today and partly sunny with highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s and lows in the 50s with clouds increasing. Friday is warmer in the 70s, and more scattered showers or even a downpour is possible in the afternoon and evening/overnight. By Saturday and Sunday, a warm front will have tracked north of us, bringing in warmer temps in the 70s to low 80s both day, but also a quite noticeable increase and humidity, so it will be muggy, such that even when it's not raining we may see some patches of drizzle/mist at times. Now, we're not raining all day long during both weekend days, there will be periods where it's not raining. But it will be moist/damp, and quite humid with seasonable warmth. However, when it does rain, it could pour at times, and some thunderstorms are expected to move through as well, so folks with outdoor plans including those traveling to Green River Festival at the Fairgrounds in Greenfield, MA need to have rain gear at the ready. I've been at that festival during either the 2016 or 2017 iteration and it was like this, but as long as you plan for it, it's still a total blast, but just be prepared is all I'm saying. This type of weather continues into next week because even as this southeastern U.S. low ejects northeast through New England and out of here by Monday, ANOTHER upper low is dropping toward the Great Lakes and tracking eastbound for New England, which will keep southwest, humid flow into the region and bring more periods of showers and thunderstorms early to mid next week, with no real chance for a legit sunny day until late week. Have a great day, and I will keep you updated as we enter this new muggy mucky weather pattern!
