Western Mass Regional Weather for June 18, 2023

Good morning everybody, and Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads!

Before I get into the week ahead, I did want to mention that the wildfire smoke issue doesn’t look as impactful moving into this upcoming week as it did several days ago.

As our coastal low south of Maine continues to pull away from the region, there is some smoke aloft that will get yanked eastward from the Midwest and pulled through New England, but it should mostly be aloft and it doesn’t look very concentrated, and certainly nothing like what we experienced a couple of weeks ago!

For today, our storm is still swirling in the Gulf of Maine looking like an early March Nor’easter on satellite, which is just wild for mid June, but here we are.

Mixes of clouds and sunshine will pull south and southeast through the region today, and isolated shower can’t be ruled out, but it should be mostly dry with highs in the low to mid 70s and lows in the upper 40s to mid 50s under partly cloudy skies.

To kick off the week, we’ll start off with patchy fog and then we should see some scattered showers or even a thunderstorm by afternoon. A partly sunny day on average is expected with highs in the low to mid 70s. Lows will be in the 50s with a few showers as well.

Highs will reach the 70s again on Tuesday, and any scattered showers or t-storms should give way to a drying pattern Tuesday night into the end of the week as high pressure begins to earnestly edge into the region by mid-week.

As high pressure (finally!!) scoots to the east and southeast, it will set up shop (at least for several days) to our south, which is the high-pressure placement you want if you desire summertime warmth.

This means that our temps will surge through the 70s Wednesday and into the low to mid 80s by Thursday and Friday with plenty of sunshine as well.

Since our Summer Solstice arrives Wednesday at 10:57am, the timing of this warmth is perfectly and poetically timed!

After a warm end to the week, we are looking at a frontal boundary that is likely to produce some showers sometime over next weekend, but we’re far away from that period of time at the moment, so I will have to update you as get closer.

Have a great day!
