For today, we've got hot heat on the way, and humidity will build a bit with dewpoint temps climbing into the low 60s or so by this evening. Enjoy the sunshine the first part of this day, as a strong cold front will be dropping north to south into our region overnight, and ahead of it we'll see showers, downpours and thunderstorms form. It's thought that microbursts can form when enough antecedent dry air gets ingested into the mid-levels of a thunderstorm, causing a sort of collapse of air in the form of a downdraft that hits the ground and spreads out radially at high speeds. We cannot rule this out from happening today with any storms, though it's a low risk. More likely is that we just get some strong gusty winds in one or two stronger storms, and most likely these are just fairly slow moving and dump rain in some spots with localized street flooding being possible. The timeframe of impact is a start around mid-afternoon, and then showers and storms should become more numerous toward late afternoon and into the evening. Highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s today will cool into the upper 40s and 50s behind the front tonight, and temps will only rise into the upper 50s to mid 60s tomorrow with morning showers, and a potential drying trend by afternoon. Some of us may even see a few peeks of sun. By Sunday, we still have to watch a nearby coastal storm that could bring a few showers to eastern parts of our region, but the trend has been drier with some sunshine possible, so Sunday looks to be the pick of the week for now with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s. High temps all next week look to hover in the 65-70º range is a slightly below average for this time of year. While Monday looks to start out dry with partly sunny skies, we should see another upper level low tracking into the northeast U.S. and lollygagging about for days, which will introduce the chance for afternoon instability showers each day, along with a mixed sun/cloud sky. There may be a day in there that features a larger period of rainfall, and as of now that looks to be Tuesday or Wednesday but I will update you as we get closer. For now, just know that the summer pattern is breaking later today with our cold frontal passage tonight, and when thunder roars, go indoors. I hope you have a great day and that things go your way! >>> BE KIND <<< “Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you've got to be kind.” --Kurt Vonnegut
