DAVE’S WEEKLY WEATHER NUTSHELL
Good morning, folks, we have to many weather changes on the way over the next 7 days, it’s a bit dizzying, but I’ll give you the quick following run down, then go into the Celestials, the ZoneCasts, and Discussion as always.
We can expect milder temps with sunshine today (pick of the week!) with clouds overnight and an overcast Friday with showers moving in by late afternoon. Rain will fall heavily at times Friday night into early Saturday with strong southerly wind gusts, to be followed by much colder air moving in Sunday into the middle of next week when our first snowfall for high elevation folks is possible, but before we jump into the details, let’s check a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, with their newest location in West Springfield, MA.

WEATHER REPORT
Good morning everybody, rise and shine, and a shiny, warmer, lovely, pick-of-the-week day it will be!
We’ve got high pressure departing to the east at the surface which will kick winds around from the southwest with gusts of 15-25mph at times today under mostly sunny skies with highs climbing into the mid to upper 60s, with some low 60s north of the Rt. 2 corridor.
Just a lovely day on tap, and if it were me, I would find a way to get outside for a walk in the woods and soak up some of this fleeting mildness, because things are changing, folks.
For tonight, we will start to see clouds increase as post-tropical storm Nicole will be transitioning into a cold core low center as it gets kicked north and then northeast by an eastward-tracking upper trough sweeping into the center of the country.
Lows tonight will drop into the 40s, and clouds will continue to increase region-wide on Friday morning.
Nicole’s remnant low is slated to track northeast up the Appalachians and pass over the southern Lake Champlain Region in western VT, headed for New Brunswick, and likely accelerating as it does so.
Given that this storm will pass to our northwest, and given that the heaviest rain with tropical or post tropical systems tend to fall along and west of said track, the heaviest rain from this system will drop over NY and PA.
Still, we can expect periods of showers, downpours and thunderstorms of varying intensity, first arriving as scattered showers late Friday afternoon, and then picking up in coverage Friday night into very early Saturday morning.
Since we’re on the southeast side of the system, that’s the windier side, so gusts of 25-40mph can be expected as the storm moves through our region.
We also can’t rule out the very, very low chance for a quick/weak tornado, as these systems are accompanied often by helicity, which refers to low-level turning or rotation of the air.
A few thunderstorms will be possible, and some isolated ponding of road ways could also occur.
Highs Friday will be in the mid to upper 60s with a very balmy feel, and lows will hang near 60º for one night as tropical flow moves through.
By mid to late morning Saturday, rain should be coming to an end as the storm lifts out, with wind shifting around to the west and gusting 25-35mph at times with highs in the mid to upper 60s, then falling by evening with lows in the mid to upper 30s with clearing skies.
The Sunday to Tuesday timeframe will re-establish northwesterly flow into our region, with the coldest air of the new season moving into the region.
Skies should be partly to mostly sunny during this timeframe with highs mid 40s to low 50s Sunday, and then low to mid 40s Monday and Tuesday with some folks in northwest MA and southern VT only staying in the upper 30s for highs early next week! Lows will be in the 20s.
Then we turn our attention to growing signals for another storm system tracking northeast towards the Mid-Atlantic region by Tuesday night.
If the timing is such that this storm spreads its precip shield into our region late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, some of us would see snowfall, and could see light accumulations!
This is especially true for the northern Berkshires, northwestern hilltowns of Franklin and Hampshire County, and southern VT and the Taconics of NY.
