DISCUSSION:
Good morning folks, if you’re reading this, today might be the best day you’ve had in a while. You just can never tell what’s going to happen, who you’ll meet, and what new direction life may take today. Raise those ‘brows, smile, and do your Face Yoga, and keep putting one foot in front of the other, and down the road you/we go. I hope it works out for you.

As for our weather, The Coldening is weakening.

We’re getting warmer surges and the last half of February is looking quite a bit milder than average, so a little early Spring taste is on our doorstep.

But, you wouldn’t know it this morning, brrrr!! Quite cold with temps in the singles and low 10s, and below zero across the southern Green Mountains of VT.

What is your temp this morning?

For today, our highs will rise into the low to mid 20s north, and mid to upper 20s south with west to southwest winds gusting between 15-25mph under mostly sunny skies, though a few clouds may develop along and north of the Rt. 2 corridor.

For tonight, one more wicked cold night will plunge our temps into the single digits to low 10s under partly cloudy skies.

Once we reach early tomorrow morning, very cold temperatures will set the low point for temps we’ll experience for at least the next 7-10 days, possibly longer.

Strong high pressure to our south today will continue to sweep east off of the Mid-Atlantic coastline, while a developing low pressure center will lift northeast into the Great Lakes region by Thursday.

The circulations around each of these atmospheric features (counterclockwise around the low, clockwise around the high) will drive milder air on southwest flow into the WMass region for Wednesday, with highs in the upper 30s to mid 40s, featuring southwest gusts to 25mph.

As this milder, somewhat moister air is lifted up and over that antecedent cold dome, partly sunny skies will develop for Wednesday, with lows dropping into the mid 30s – a 25-30 degree increase over tonight’s upcoming lows!

By Thursday, the warmth is on the way, as is an increase in wind speed, which will peak Thursday night with our rainstorm.

Thursday will be a mostly cloudy day with highs in the mid to upper 50s, and a few isolated showers are possible in the afternoon. It will border on being balmy, with mild temps and southerly gusts kicking up to 30-40mph by afternoon, most likely.

Then the rain arrives at night, and it will fall heavily at times. With mild lows only in the 35-40º range, stronger winds may mix to the ground and produce gusts up to 50mph or so across the greater WMass region, which could produce some outages. We also can’t rule out a thunderstorm in the midst of this system.

There is a potential as the cold front comes through Friday morning, that areas in SVT or the Berkshires may quickly flip to snow before ending, but no accumulation is expected, and it’s a very low chance – we likely stay rain everywhere.

On Friday, early morning highs in the 40s will fall throughout the afternoon with sunshine developing as the front clears the region to the east. Lows will drop to the mid to upper teens, so it will be cold, but not as cold as this and tomorrow morning.

The weekend looks fair and seasonably cold with highs in the mid to upper 30s with sunshine, and lows in the teens Saturday night and 20s Sunday night, before another Mildening episode arrives early next week.
