COLDEST MORNING OF THE WINTER OF 2021-2022… LUCKILY LITTLE TO NO WIND… A FEW CLOUDS AND FLURRIES / LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS BACKING WEST-SOUTHWEST INTO SOUTHERN CMASS AND NORTHEAST CT FROM OCEAN EFFECT THIS MORNING WILL ABATE LATER… OTHERWISE, FAIR AND COLD THROUGH MONDAY… A CLIPPER SYSTEM MAY BRING SOME SNOW SHOWERS LATE MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY… NEXT STORM CHANCE NEXT WEEKEND, OTHERWISE FAIR AND COLD MID TO LATE THIS COMING WEEK… LOTS OF SUNSHINE ON THE WAY, FOLKS… 7:25AM SATURDAY…
Good morning everybody, it is wicked cold out! With little wind (max wind gusts since midnight have been under 10mph for just about everybody with some folks at 0mph), along with clear skies and dry air, our temps fell lower than expected. Many areas in the Berkshires, western hilltowns and SVT in the double digits below zero.
What is your temperature this morning?
We will recover today with highs reaching up into the low to mid 20s, though we may see some areas in northwest MA and SVT stay below 20º.
Either way, after some ocean effect flurries in northeast CT and southern CMass this morning, it will be increasingly sunny and fair as strong high pressure drifts east through our region, sitting on us like a mother hen but without The Warmening one might expect from a New England sized hen’s underside attempting to warm her human chicks.
I know, that was a strange image for me too. Moving on!
High pressure moves through our region tonight, and begins a weaker southerly flow that will help temps to mostly stay above freezing in the single digits, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a few spots hit the 0º mark.
A cold front swings toward the region tomorrow, and so we should see more clouds than sun, especially by afternoon – call it partly sunny early, mostly cloudy for the rest of the day. Highs will reach the mid 20s to low 30s – balmy!
We might see a flurry, or snow shower or two Sunday night as the front passes by, and lows will dip into the single digits once again.
For Monday we’ll enjoy a mostly sunny day, but it will be cold again with highs in the low to mid 20s.
***We’re in the core of the winter, folks, so hang in there. This, too, shall pass, if it’s getting you down.***
Clouds build Monday night and a Clipper low likely passes north of us, and should bring some snow showers after midnight into Tuesday with some light accumulations possible, especially in northern MA up into SVT and SWNH.
As the low passes north, temps will warm into the low to mid 30s but should be cold enough at the lower-mid levels to keep precip as all snow to the surface.
Again, it isn’t definite that we’ll see accumulating snow, but I will update you as we get closer – something to watch. Lows will be in the teens Tuesday night as any snow showers end.
Wednesday through Friday looks fair and partly sunny with highs generally in the upper teens to mid 20s or so.
Next Saturday is the next storm chance, but once again, it’s a loooooooooooooooooooong long way away, and I will keep an eye on it to see if trends into something impactful.
Stay warm this morning, bundle up, take care, and I am running a 2022 Weather Calendar Clearance Sale as I have some extra available after my Oct/Nov main sale… message me if you are interested, and for folks that recently ordered I am shipping by Monday…
