Good evening folks, I hope you had a great day, and it certainly was a snowy one with all of that lake effect activity surviving the long east-southeastward trek through NY state!
Many in northwest MA and SVT, and even in the valley saw coatings to 2″ or 3″ of fresh fluff.
How much did you get where you live (assuming you got some accumulation)?
We have a wave along the cold front that will pass through tonight, and may become enhanced by the ongoing blizzard out over the Tug Hill Plateau just east of Lake Ontario, where Redfield, NY saw 5″ in ONE hour today!
Lake effect snow chasing could be the ticket for me… provided I have a nearby cabin with a wood stove to duck into if need be!!!

So given that wave and frontal passage, some additional snow showers may pass through northern MA and SVT/SWNH as the front comes through after midnight.
This is separate from the ongoing snow showers in the northern Berkshires at 6:30pm, some of which are bleeding into western Franklin/Hampshire Counties and SVT.
All of this snow shower activity winds down by tomorrow morning at some point.
As for temps, we’re already in the teens to low 20s, and we’ll be heading down into the -5 to +5 range overnight, and northwest winds will gust up to 20mph or so at times by morning.
This will combine to produce wind chills of -10 to -25º by 8am Tuesday.

For Tuesday? High pressure behind the cold front, and very cold, highs will be like 5-10º, maybe we reach the low to mid teens in northern CT near Hartford. At least it will be sunny.
Lows then crash back into the -5 to +5º range under partly cloudy skies.
Wednesday will feature high pressure tracking east and south of us, putting us into a milder flow which brings high temps up to the upper 20s to low 30s with partly sunny skies.
After lows in the teens with clouds increasing, we’ll rise well into the 30s for Thursday with more clouds than sunshine.
A coastal storm likely stays east of us, but could bring some snow showers to EMass, and could make for a breezy Friday and Friday night as it gets set to blast into Nova Scotia and just hammer that province with heavy snow and high wind.
Once again snow lovers, we’re stiffed on the track. Boo Hoo for us!
Lows Thursday night will be in the teens and highs in the 20s with sunshine on Friday.
The weekend looks split, with Saturday being the pick as of now, and Sunday having some storm potential but I’m not seeing steady signals yet, so I will keep you updated.

WEATHER BULLETIN:
–Good morning folks, we have a rare long-fetch lake effect snow band that, while broken in spots, is linked all the way from Lake Ontario through the northern Berkshires, Hampshire County, eastern Hampden and into northeast CT! Rare.
–It’s mainly out in the Berkshires and Taconics where this could coat the ground this morning
–Watch for black ice patches this morning as mentioned last night, as temps dropped into the teens and 20s overnight
–For today, that lake effect band will peeter out by noon, and we’ll have a partly sunny, but cold day with highs in the upper teens to mid 20s with a breezy west wind gusting to 20mph at times
–For tonight, more upslope and lake effect snow showers are expected for the Berkshires, SVT and the western hilltowns as a second, Arctic front barrels through the region bringing the coldest air of the season
–With refreshened west winds gusting to 20-25mph, lows tonight will drop between negative 5º and positive 5º, and wind chills by Tuesday morning will drop to anywhere between negative 10º to negative 20º… fun times!

–Tomorrow is Tundra Time, but at least it will be sunny. Highs in the single digits, maybe some of us reach 10º or so. Whoopee, yay, hooray.
–Back into the deep freeze again Tuesday night with lows again -5 to +5 degrees under partly cloudy skies
–Wednesday and Thursday will see a high pressure system scoot south of us and start to push a bit milder air in here, but it will still be seasonably cold
–Highs upper 20s to low 30s Wednesday under mostly sunny skies with lows in the teens with clouds moving in for Thursday, when highs reach the 30s
–Then the murky Friday to Sunday pattern continues, as we will have ocean storm development taking place, but it’s uncertain whether or not they stay out to sea, or make a pass at southern New England
–If they do, we could be talking about more snowfall for sure
–Overall, the pattern for the second half of January looks at least seasonably cold if not a little below, and the upper level pattern is going to deliver several opportunities for inclement weather, so there’s much to monitor on my end
