Western Mass Weather for December 14, 2021

7:00AM-TUES: ACCUMULATING SNOW POSSIBLE SATURDAY, BEST CHANCE ALONG AND NORTH OF THE RT. 2 CORRIDOR… SHOWERS WEDNESDAY NIGHT MAY START BRIEFLY AS SNOW IN THE HIGH ELEVATIONS… MILDNESS SPIKE ON THURSDAY FOR A DAY… POTENTIAL FOR WINTER STORMINESS STILL EXISTS EARLY NEXT WEEK AROUND TUESDAY… LOTS TO WATCH…

Good morning folks, were you able to get outside and see the Geminids last night? What color streaks did you see? Any fireballs? I was able to see half a dozen so, and sent cast out my requisite wishes. Let me know if you saw any!

As for our weather, we’ve got lots of changes coming over the next 7 days, with the most impactful weather day potentially being Saturday with a storm that will eject northeast out of the southern Ohio Valley and possibly bring accumulating snow to parts of our region.

In other words, there’s lots to run through, but before we jump into our weather details, I’ve got a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, who just opened a new location in West Springfield, MA.

WEATHER BULLETIN:
–Good morning folks, a dry cold front is swinging through the region today, and some winds kicked up in northwest MA and SVT overnight with gusts up to 40mph
–This was not really expected, but I don’t see any outages really this morning, so that seems fortunate. Was it windy by you last night?
–Anyway, for today we’ll see mostly sunny skies with highs in the low to upper 40s with some northwest gusts to 25mph at times behind the front
–High pressure nudges southeast into the region overnight, and winds will slacken, maximizing radiational cooling and producing lows in the low to mid 20s for a cold night
–Wednesday starts off mostly sunny, but clouds will be building in as the high pressure center keeps floating southeast and away from our region, turning the flow more southerly as it does so
–Highs will reach the low 40s for many of us
–Showers will arrive after sunset and may start as snow in SVT and SWNH in/around the southern Greens the Monadnock Region
–Any snow will change to rain, and lows should stay above freezing in the mid to upper 30s
–These showers will last through much of the night, and are associated with a warm frontal passage that will bring a surge of mildness that will cause temps to rise into the mid to upper 50s on Thursday under mostly cloudy skies
–A cold front follows quickly from the west, and will pass through Thursday night bringing more showers, though less in number, I believe, with lows in the upper 30s to low 40s
–For Friday, we clear out as the morning moves along, and highs should reach the mid to upper 40s under mostly sunny skies
–Winter starts to seep back in over the weekend, and clouds will increase Friday night
–Another storm system behind the cold front looks to work east-northeast out of the southern Ohio Valley, but track remains uncertain
–If it passes to our south, we could be talking about a light to moderate snowfall on Saturday for parts of the WMass region up into SVT/SWNH and east into CMass with a rain/snow line setting up somewhere
–More on that as we get closer. Sunday looks colder, and fair, and early next week may hold some potential winter storminess too, so lots to keep tabs on!

Have a great day!
