Good morning folks, we’ve got another 48 hours of weather changes before we get to the other side of a pair of frontal passages that will bring freezing rain, plain rain, strong wind, isolated power outages, and maybe a thunderstorm before we can get to a multi-day mid-December stretch of overall niceness replete with sunshine, goodness and pleasantness, and who can’t use more of that?

We’ve got lots to run through, but before we jump into our weather details, I’ve got a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, who just opened a new location in West Springfield, MA.

DISCUSSION:
Good morning everybody, here we are again! We’re still up and taking nourishment as my father is fond of saying, still respirating, still in the Cosmos as humans, pretty cool if you ask me, despite the inherent woes and problems with being so manifested.

As for our weather, we’ve got big changes on the way, so let’s jump into them, shall we?

For today, we had some light snow showers and flurries move through for some overnight, but those are largely northeast of us.

That was associated with a warm frontal passage, and lucky for us, we’ve got another one of those to move through after midnight tonight!

Before then, we’ve got a cool (but milder than yesterday) day on tap under mostly cloudy skies with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s as an overall milder push of air starts to approach the region.

For tonight, another warm front will be heading our way, and lows will be in the upper 20s to low 30s, which presents us with an icing problem by the late pre-dawn hours of Saturday, into early/mid Saturday morning.

Another round of showers (this round stronger than this morning’s) will be accompanying this warm front push, and will produce scattered rain and freezing rain showers.

A Winter Weather Advisory is up for southern VT, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see that spread east into Cheshire County NH, and possibly even the northern Berkshires and western Franklin County, but that’s up to the NWS to make those calls.

I would say if you live along the Rt. 2 corridor in MA on north, you should be alert to potential for slippery roads and surfaces tomorrow due to light ice glaze from light freezing rain early.

The rest of us should see plain rain showers in the morning, and we can’t rule out a thunderclap either as the first wave of showers moves through.

Now, much milder air is slated to flood the region tomorrow, but again, the valley is more likely than not to hold on to its morning cold for longer than higher elevations to the west and east of the Pioneer Valley.

This means while CT and areas in MA that flank the valley should rise well into the 50s, we may be sitting in the upper 30s to 40s into the afternoon.

We can also expect isolated showers at times after the morning shower burst, but most of the time it will just be cloudy until we get to around or after sunset.

Then we could have some problems with strong gusty wind capable of isolated outages and wind damage.

Mild air should eventually overspread the greater WMass region by evening, which is when the stronger southwesterly wind gusts of 30-50mph should mix down to the ground, so it’s looking windy Saturday evening and overnight, for sure.

Heavier showers should be arriving by 6-8pm from west to east, and again, thunder is possible, along with a downpour.

As the cold front works through around midnight, a sharp wind shift may cause winds to pin to 60mph briefly, which could be a jolt to the system around midnight, which may knock power out for some.

These westerlies will continue overnight and into Sunday which will be blustery, but they will slacken with time.

Sunday looks cool with highs in the upper 30s to mid 40s under mostly sunny skies, and lows in the upper 20s to low 30s.

The Monday through Wednesday period looks partly to mostly sunny, dry, calm, nice, mild, with highs 45-50º and lows near freezing, before another potential warm up for late week.

Live long and prosper, be nice and stuff, and have a great day!
