LET THE DRYENING COMMENCE… WELL, FIRST A FEW SHOWERS AND A STORM POSSIBLE TOMORROW MORING INTO THE FIRST PART OF THE AFTERNOON… THEN WE COOL DOWN, AND MOSTLY DRY OUT, WITH A SINGLE LIGHT SCATTERED SHOWER EVENT FIRST PART OF THURSDAY… 6:35pm MON…
Good evening everybody, we had a line of showers move through late morning into early afternoon (which lasted a bit longer in SVT/SWNH) as our warm front passed through, which kicked our temps up into the 70s.
For this evening, we’ll generally see temps settle down into the 55-60º range, and clouds will build overnight as a cold front approaches the region.
Showers may arrive just before or around dawn, and then press east through the region. This line of showers may gain strength as it presses east and develop a couple of thunderstorms by the time it reaches the CT River Valley, but more likely as it tracks well east of there, into Worcester County and northeast CT.
Even though showers will quit by noon or so, it will remain a mostly cloudy day with perhaps a few sunny breaks before sunset, with highs in the mid 60s to low 70s.
Behind the front, much colder air moves into place, and lows will drop into the low to mid 40s with mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s on Wednesday!
Thursday will be even colder as a reinforcing secondary cold front comes through with a few showers, puts our highs into the mid 50s to low 60s, about 15 degrees cooler than today!
Friday through Sunday looks partly to mostly sunny with highs in the 60-65º range and lows in the 40s, and by end of next weekend, another strong and sprawling high pressure system is set to dive southeast out of Canada, and more likely than not will bring a reinforcing shot of cooler, Autumn air, while simultaneously suppressing Hurricane Sam WELL out to sea to our east.
Have a great night, and you can check out the new DHTWN theme song written and recorded by my friends from the band Spouse at the link below. If you like it, it only costs $1 and all proceeds go to the WMass Food Bank. Thank you!

O’CONNELL AND THE BAND SPOUSE FEATURING ME PLAYING BASS… PROCEEDS FROM DIGITAL SALES OF THE SONG TO BENEFIT THE FOOD BANK OF WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS (INFO BELOW)… TODAY WILL BE THE WARMEST DAY OVER LIKELY THE NEXT 7 AND MAYBE BEYOND… A FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE BY THIS AFTERNOON, THEN AGAIN TOMORROW WILL BE FOLLOWED BY MUCH DRIER AND COOLER CONDITIONS… SOME FOLKS IN OUR WESTERN HILLTOWNS WON’T REACH 60º ON THURSDAY… I CAN HEAR THE SOUND OF CREAKING WOOD STOVE DOORS ALREADY…
Good morning folks, lots to talk about this morning! In addition to our increasingly autumnal weather, I have the truly good fortune to share a story today with you about how my good friend and rhythm section partner through many western MA bands, J.J. O’Connell, tricked me into contributing what became the bass line to a theme song he (unbeknownst to me) wrote about me and my weather nutting activities, which is being released today, and debuts on Monte Belmonte’s morning show on The River, 93.9FM.
We’ll jump into all the fun details like a kid leaps into a late October pile of leaves below, but first let’s get a word from our local and delicious sponsor. #MmmmmBagels

NEW DHTWN THEME SONG TO BENEFIT
THE FOOD BANK OF WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS
If you keep living long enough, and you keep chipping away at things, sometimes wonderful stuff can happen, and when it does, it’s important to be grateful, which I very much am.
In my case, my buddy J.J. O’Connell who expertly drums for one of my favorite bands to ever come out of WMass, called “Spouse” (which features an amazing songwriter and wonderful bandleader and human, Jose Ayerve, along with the amazing keyboardist and multi-instrumentalist Ken Maiuri), had a little plan for me.
In January of this year, he reached out to me and said he had a drum beat that he wanted me to play some bass on.
It was still in the pandemic lockdown, so all musicians were mostly recording remotely and building songs one track at a time through the digital ethers.
The short version of this story is that I dragged my feet on it because, well, I was busy reporting winter weather to you folks, and I was also having some technical difficulties, so I got overwhelmed.
Fast forward, and after a few iterations, about 6 months later I finally got a bass line to him that he liked which he could build his song around.
Then, during my Hurricane Ida coverage last month when I was on vacation on the Cape he emailed me the final version of the song he had me play on – and it turned out to be a theme song about Dave Hayes The Weather Nut, and I couldn’t believe it!
My buddy J.J. got me to play bass on a song written about me without me knowing it, and I am truly grateful and honored by my good friend, and all of my friends who worked on this track including J.J., Ken, Jose, and Mark Alan Miller of Sonelab in Easthampton, MA who mixed and mastered it to prepare it for release (I’ve recorded several records with Mark over the past 30 years, and he is truly a master at his craft, and the sweetest dude).
ALL SALES PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT THE FOOD BANK
For the super low price of just a buck, you can buy the song, and after Bandcamp takes its fees, net proceeds will all be donated to the Food Bank, in perpetuity.
You can listen to and buy the song by clicking below:

Look for my logo on that page/site, and you’ll see this newest Spouse release in the upper left corner (and be sure to check out their other releases too, I love them so much!)
Lastly, Monte Belmonte from 93.9FM The River will be debuting the song on the air this morning a couple of times until 10am.
Ok, that’s the big non-weather announcement for today.
I consider the work of the Food Bank to be incredibly important as I have been deeply down and out in my life not so long ago, and wasn’t far away from needing their services.
Everyone likes to believe their life will never take that turn, but stuff happens that is unforeseen, and people go hungry in our region. I donate every year to Monte’s March which hugely benefits the Food Bank, and so I hope you’ll buy the song and help us chip in a little to their mission of food security for our WMass region.
Thanks, and we hope you enjoy the song!

WEATHER SUMMARY:
–A warm frontal boundary moves through today, bringing partly sunny skies on average, and a few showers possible, especially north of the Pike by around late morning into the afternoon
–Highs will reach the low to mid 70s, which will be the warmest day we’ll see over the next 7
–We’ll also get the wind to kick up to 25mph at times from the southwest with this warm front, and humidity will come up a bit, but nothing crazy #NoBigWhoopididdityLevels
–For tonight, temps will hang in the mid to upper 50s for lows as the cloud deck builds late in advance of a cold front that will run through the region on Tuesday
–This will bring some more robust showers, and possibly a thunderstorm as a fleeting surge of late summer air tries in vain to rise up from its already-defeated position
–The cold front will just slap it back south with ease on Tuesday as strong northwest flow develops out of Canada and through New England by Tuesday night
–Highs on Tuesday will reach the mid 60s to low 70s with showers moving in by morning and lasting possibly until the early afternoon, with most activity along or south of the Rt. 2 corridor
–By Tuesday night behind he front, temps will plummet into the low to mid 40s with clearing skies and a chill to the air
–Mostly sunny skies develop Wednesday with highs only in the low to mid 60s and lows again in the mid 40s
–A few showers may move through Thursday morning with a reinforcing blast of cooler air, but sunshine should redevelop and the drier northwest flow as the day wears on
–Highs will be the coolest we’ve seen thus far in our nascent and incoming cold season, only reaching the mid 50s to low 60s, with lows in the upper 30s to mid 40s! Chilly! But no frost yet…
–Friday through the weekend looks like perfect Autumn conditions, with mostly sunny skies, highs in the low to mid 60s, lows in the 40s, and tranquil weather
Autumn arrives! Have a great day, and please give the song a listen at the link below, thank you for everything!
