Good morning everybody, after this Summer, that last clause in the headline is one I issue with a gigantic sigh of relief, and I hope it’s true. We’re heading into October, we live in New England, and this writer needs the muggy and downpour-y weather to leave these shores, you know, for sanity’s sake.
Yesterday was GORGEOUS, and I spent the afternoon at Florence Night Out watching a lot of my friends make music, seeing people I haven’t seen in a while, and by all measures it was a wonderful time, to be sure.
For our Sunday, we had started with a few showers in parts of CMass and northeast CT, but that is rapidly pulling away, and clouds will be decreasing, with mostly sunny skies developing and highs rising into the mid 60s to low 70s with low humidity. We’ll get some northwest breezes to kick up to 20mph in gusts today as cooler air moves in behind the front. Lows tonight will be in the upper 40s, with a crisp chill in the air by dawn.
For Monday and Tuesday, high pressure way down to our southwest in the Deep South will nudge a warm front into our region by Monday afternoon, generating a few evening showers as it passes through.
Highs Monday will rise into the low to mid 70s and humidity will increase. Expect mostly sunny skies during a good part of the day, but clouds will filter in later afternoon and at night with lows in the mid to upper 50s.
On Tuesday, that same warm front will return as a cold front with strong Canadian high pressure knocking on the northwest part of our region, set to deliver us into the next step down into Autumn.
It will be fairly humid with dewpoints rising into the low 60s, and with some partly sunny skies earlier on, we could generate enough instability with some wind shear to get some thunderstorms to develop along with showers and a few downpours with the cold frontal passage during the afternoon.
Highs will crest into the upper 60s to low 70s, but will fall sharply behind the front with lows plummeting into the low to mid 40s as skies clear out.
Wednesday through Friday is full-on early Autumn, with highs only in the upper 50s to mid 60s and lows in the low to mid 40s, and Saturday looks similarly, with mostly sunny skies throughout much of the period. Dewpoints (see attached chart) for late week will be in the 30s and 40s, which = super dry!
There is the potential for some late-week showers, and more partly sunny skies as a very cold pool of air moves ahead and makes the lower atmosphere a bit unstable, and the low potential for a coastal low needs to be monitored.
But for now, it looks like tranquil, Fall conditions arrive mid to late week and into next weekend.
Beyond that, Hurricane Sam is still forecast to curve out to sea and not bother with New England, but I will be monitoring.
And it looks like by early next week another shot of Canadian air will be ushered in by a strong high pressure system in southern Canada, so The Coolening may indeed be full steam ahead, at least in the short-term.
Have a great day!
