Western Mass Weather for August 27, 2021

7:05A-FRI: HEAT ADVISORIES HAVE BEEN HOISTED FOR A FINAL DAY IN ALL OF NORTHERN CT EXCEPT NORTHERN LITCHFIELD COUNTY FOR HEAT INDICES INTO THE MID 90S THERE… WE DRY OUT AND COOL DOWN TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING, MUGGY THINGS BACK UP LATE SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY WITH SEVERE WEATHER POSSIBLE, THEN A COLD FRONT DRIES US AND COOLS US BY TUESDAY… IF HURRICANE IDA REMNANTS STAY SOUTH OF US, A CRISPENING IS POSSIBLE, OR AT LEAST A COOLENING… PATTERN CHANGE CONTINUES TO BE SIGNALED…

Good morning folks, due to the popularity of yesterday’s double–dashes resurgence, resumption, and the resultant typographical excitement that ensued, we’ll bring ’em back to close out the work week. I know, I know, it’s almost TOO much excitement for two days, but we deserve it after enduring this Summer, and I’m here to serve! As per usual, we have a note from our sponsor immediately below, and then we can let the skimming activities commence!

SYNOPSIS
–Today will complete our fourth heat wave of the Summer with a few areas (not many) cresting the low 90s for the 4th day in a row
–Areas like Springfield down into Hartford are where we expect such temps, and that’s why northern CT has Heat Advisories hoisted
–Heat indices may push into the mid 90s, with perhaps a few 97º readings mixed in there in north-central CT
–Elsewhere, we’ll reach the low to upper 80s, despite the fact that a cold front is tracking south through the region this morning
–This front will settle south of us down near southwest CT and will likely focus some showers and thunderstorms late today down that way, which may affect northwest CT and the southern Taconics this late afternoon and into the evening
–It will be humid once again, but by tonight humidity will be lowering to more comfortable levels with lows in the low 60s
–This lowered humidity will last through Saturday and into the first part of Sunday
–High pressure near Atlantic Canada will drive onshore flow into our region, and as such, we’ll see more clouds than sun this weekend
–It will also be cooler Saturday, with highs in the low to mid 70s and lows in the low 60s with a few widely scattered showers or patchy drizzle possible
–On Sunday, humidity increases during the day as the front lifts back through as a warm front, with temps rising into the 75-80º range
–A shower or a thunderstorm is possible on Sunday and Sunday evening, with lows in the mid to upper 60s as humidity surges again
–Monday looks very humid with highs in the low to mid 80s as a cold front approaches from the west, which may help to spawn strong to severe thunderstorms during the afternoon and early evening
–Once that comes through, it clears out the soup, and we should see drier and cooler conditions develop Tuesday forward through the rest of the week IF the remnants of Ida are suppressed to our south
–We’re looking at highs in the 70s and lows in the upper 50s to low 60s during this period, with potential for much drier air, but we’ll have to see how the jet stream handles Ida by Wed/Thurs to know how the week will play out
–Tropical storms always throw ointments into the forecast mix, unfortunately, but regardless, we keep getting signals of a cooler look to start September and Meteorological Fall

Well, that does it, have a great day peeps!
