7:50A-MON: THE UPPER REMNANTS OF HENRI WILL PINWHEEL SLOWLY THROUGH THE WMASS REGION TODAY… SHOWERS, SOME HEAVIER, ARE ALREADY WORKING BACK INTO THE SOUTHERN BERKSHIRES AND NORTHWEST CT THIS MORNING… SCATTERED DOWNPOURS SHOULD DEVELOP, POSSIBLY A THUNDERSTORM OF TWO IF SUNNY BREAKS OPEN UP LATER, AND AN ISOLATED TORNADO CAN’T BE RULED OUT, BUT LIKELY EAST OF THE I-91 CORRIDOR TOWARD CMASS/EMASS… ISOLATED POCKETS OF FLASH FLOODING ARE EXPECTED UNDER ANY DOWNPOURED/STORMED AREAS… THEN WE HEAT UP TUES-THURS BEFORE A COLD FRONT DRIES US OUT LATE WEEK INTO THE WEEKEND… VERY HUMID THIS WEEK… HEAT ADVISORIES POSSIBLE…
Good morning everybody, I am going run through the main story items in a list up top, then a word from our sponsor, then the discussion, so let’s jump in.
QUICK STORY
–Henri’s super weak low center tracked into the western Catskills overnight, another unexpected result
–Its broad upper low sits over southeast NY and southwest New England
–This broad circulation will track east across southern New England today
–Within it, we will see alternating bands of showers, downpours, and possibly a few thunderstorms mixed with ribbons of dry air
–This will produce scattered showers and downpours across the region with flash flooding potential in isolated pockets
–A weak tornado cannot be ruled out, but a severe outbreak isn’t expected
–This activity generally ends by midnight
–Tues-Thurs are very humid and very warm to hot
–Low chance of a heat wave Springfield south, but more like 85-90º all 3 days
–Did I say very humid? VERY HUMID
–Friday through weekend were cool and dry, hooray!

DISCUSSION
Good morning folks, clouds will be building this morning, as the first of the upper low’s rain bands like a spoke in a wheel continues to surge north-northeast through western CT and into southwest MA early this morning.
This is going to be a somewhat disorganized batch of rainfall that moves through today, as there are ribbons of dry air interspersed with, at times, heavy rainfall, which means we’ll see varying intensities of showers through the day. Sometimes it will be dry, others we’ll get heavy rain, waves of dark-bellied clouds, with some sunny breaks in between, the way it looks now.
If we get enough sunshine to mix in, we could heat the ground enough to combine with the very humid air in place to bubble up some slow-moving thunderstorms.
Anyone who gets under some of these slow-moving storms or downpours could see the resumption or new flash flooding in localized areas, so that’s something to be aware of.
The only wind threat today is if one of these isolated thunderstorms grows tall, and brings some wind down with it or if a weak tornado spins up, which has a very low chance, but is unlikely.
Highs will reach the mid to upper 70s with lows tonight in the mid to upper 60s, continued very humid, with showers waning by around midnight as the story of Henri swings east and out to sea.
Tuesday through Thursday looks very warm to hot and very humid, as southwest flow brings temps in the mid 80s to low 90s into the region and a few of us may even see the 4th heat wave of the Summer, though I don’t think many of us would see that. Lows each night should be well into the 60s, and I think this 3-day period should feature a lot of sunshine with some afternoon clouds mixed in.
By Thursday night we should see a cold front swing through bringing some showers or a thunderstorm and then even sunnier, cooler, drier conditions for Friday into the weekend which looks like a winner!
Have a great day, and thanks for all of the support and encouragement over the past several days.
