BAND OF HEAVIER RAIN THIS MORNING TRACKS SOUTHEAST THROUGH SVT, SWNH AND WMASS TO START THE DAY… SOME THUNDER EXPECTED… THIS FAST-MOVING BAND EXITS BY 8-9AM… THE UPPER LOW RESPONSIBLE PRODUCES A FEW MORE SHOWERS THROUGH ABOUT MID-AFTERNOON WITHIN A DRYING PATTERN THAT LASTS INTO EARLY SUNDAY MORNING… SHOWERS AND MAYBE A THUNDERSTORM RETURNS SUNDAY BY MID AFTERNOON INTO THE EVENING… EARLY NEXT WEEK LOOKS DRIER AND SUNNY, THEN WE TURN MORE HUMID WITH SHOWERS CHANCES INCREASING SECOND HALF OF THE WEEK… 6:25AM FRI…

Good morning folks, the macro context for today is a drying flow out of the northwest, and as such we could see northwest winds gusting to 30mph at times.

However, we also have an upper level system diving southeast through the region this morning and afternoon, and this has already produced a band of substantial rainfall that is going to add insult to injury in some parts of southern VT/NH given last night’s flash flooding.

This line will sweep SVT, WMass, and points east and south this morning, arriving in the Berkshires in southwest VT around or before 7am and move on through, with some rumbles of thunder possible.

Then during the rest of the morning and into about the first part of the afternoon, some additional scattered showers will develop within a partly sunny day overall, given our upper low and its associated cold pool of air aloft will swing through and exit the region tonight.

Highs today will reach the low to upper 70s (maybe even just upper 60s in SVT) and lows will PLUMMET tonight under calming wind, clear skies, and super dry air (dewpoints in the upper 30s to mid 40s!) with low air temps in the mid to upper 40s, very cool tonight!

For Saturday, the pick of September, I mean July arrives (which isn’t saying much, I guess), but it will truly be a gorgeous, albeit Autumnal day with sunny skies and highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s with a light northwest wind and low humidity. Lows drop into the low to mid 50s.

For Sunday, inclement weather returns but more so in the afternoon, so the first half of the day should be nice with partly sunny skies and highs in the low to upper 70s.

By afternoon, clouds will build as another mid level wave moves into the region, and some scattered showers will be possible by mid afternoon lasting into the night. A thunderstorm is possible, but at this point it looks like a low chance, with any thunder happening mainly well west of the I-91 corridor. Lows will be in the mid to upper 50s.

For Monday and Tuesday, we have a pair of winners with highs well into the 70s under partly sunny skies, and lows in the 50s both nights.

By Wednesday, humidity will be increasing as our longstanding upper level trough over southeast Canada kicks back west, and allows our Bermuda high to follow suit, pushing and flexing westward toward the eastern seaboard, which will allow warmer temps, more humidity, and shower/storm chances each afternoon mid to late next week.

Still no heat waves in sight, but we’ll warm into the 80s by next weekend is the way it looks now.
