Western Mass Weather for July 26, 2021

A PAIR OF ARCHETYPAL SUMMER DAYS WILL END WITH SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TUESDAY LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING… A COLD FRONT SWINGS THROUGH AND COOLS AND DRIES US FOR WEDNESDAY… A RAINSTORM THEN MOVES INTO THE REGION FOR THURSDAY INTO EARLY FRIDAY MORNING, AT WHICH TIME WE’LL CLEAR AND DRY OUT LIKELY THROUGH MUCH OF IF NOT THE ENTIRE WEEKEND… 6:35AM MON…

Good morning folks, well I am feeling spritely and renewed after a weekend full of music with new players and old friends after a pandemically-long hiatus. I played my first gig in 17 months Saturday evening, and then rehearsed for 4 hours last night for Transperformance, the annual Northampton Arts Council fundraiser at Look Park 4-9:30pm in Florence, MA on Tuesday, August 17th, during which I’ll perform in 3 acts (hope to see you there!). It’s the best $10-$15 you’ll ever spend for music in the valley, trust me.

It was so enlivening and enriching, and I feel blessed to have had such musical communion, as it was sorely, sorely needed!

Anyway, on to the weather! While we’re not really getting those ideal hay-making stretches, we’ve definitely exited our old soaking pattern, and this will continue through the following weekend.

Cooler than average temps are expected in southern New England through the upcoming 14-day period, but we gotta get through today and tomorrow before The Coolening commences.

For this morning, we’ve got patchy dense fog out there, and some spots are below quarter-mile visibility!

Fog and morning clouds will give way to increasingly sunny skies, and with dewpoints well into the 60s, so we’ve got a very warm and humid day on the way.

Highs will reach the low to upper 80s with muggy conditions, so a few spots could see heat indices approach the low 90s or so when combining temps and humidity. Some afternoon cumulus clouds will float through overhead. Remember to say hi and thank them for coming by for a visit.

Lows will drop into the low 60s overnight under mostly clear skies.

For Tuesday, another very warm and humid day is on the way, and we’ll get plenty of sunshine during the first half of the day, with clouds increasing later in the afternoon.

Highs will again reach well into the 80s, and a few spots may touch 90º, after which the heat will wane for the foreseeable future, so summah lovahs need to do some Tuesday basking!

Clouds build ahead of a cold front tracking southeast out of the eastern Great Lakes Tuesday afternoon, and a line of showers and thunderstorms will arrive very late afternoon into the early evening, roughly 5-8pm or so, and a few storms may be strong (wind gusts 30-40mph, smail hail, etc), but severe weather is not expected at this time.

Showers may linger a bit deeper into the night, but will quit by or after midnight and lows will drop to either side of 60º.

High pressure builds through briefly to the north of the cold front that will have just passed south of us, and a beautiful, dry day will result.

High temps on Wednesday will reach the low to mid 70s as The Crispening visits us for a day with dewpoints in the 50s. Clouds will build at night, however, as low pressure tracks east toward northern New England which will pick up the old cold front, and send it towards us as a warm frontal boundary into Thursday.

With nearby ample moisture and an upper level jet in a favorable location to help induce atmospheric lift, we’ll experience a rainy day on Thursday with intermittent showers all day long and into the evening with highs only in the low to mid 70s. At this point, it looks like a half inch to an inch of rain will fall by Friday morning. Lows will be near 60º.

After morning clouds and a very early shower possible, Friday will develop into a beautiful sunny day with highs in the low to mid 70s and lows in the upper 40s to low 50s with very dry air!! #TheCrispening

Saturday looks like a copy of Friday with sunny skies, fair weather, and highs in the low to mid 70s and lows in the low to mid 50s.

While it’s too far away to ascertain Sunday’s meteorological whereabouts, it also looks like at least a partially sunny day with a bit warmer temps in the mid to upper 70s and a shower possible, but hopefully we get a full Friday through Sunday dry and sunny stretch, I shall focus my visualizations on it!

Have a great day!
