NEW PATTERN OF OSCILLATING DRY AND SHOWERY PERIODS, WITH MORE DRYNESS AND PERKY SUNNY PEEKS THAN GLOOMY CLOUD DOOMSCAPES AND SOPPENING EVENTS… LOW HUMIDITY CONTINUES WITH A FEW SHOWERS OR AN ISOLATED STORM TRACK THROUGH MAINLY EAST OF THE BERKSHIRES THIS AFTERNOON… MOSTLY DRY SATURDAY WITH A SPRINKLE POSSIBLE… SUNDAY MORNING IS RAINY, AS A SWATH SWINGS THROUGH, BEGETTING SCATTERED SHOWERS DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING… HUMIDITY AND WARMTH RETURNS EARLY NEXT WEEK WITH MORE RAIN POSSIBLE BY MID-WEEK… 7:05AM FRI…
Good morning everybody, well it certainly has been nice to get a reprieve from all of those soakings and resultant flooding and storm impacts.
Lower humidity will persist through Saturday night, and then we’ll start to crank up the Muggy Meter by Sunday into the middle of next week, though no heat waves are in sight, which works just fine for this writer.
For today, we can expect mostly sunny skies to start and we should see highs crest into the low to upper 70s with low humidity, which will allow pleasantness to abundantly abound earlier on.
By afternoon, some clouds will be building in, and we’ll see a mid-level disturbance track southeast through northern New England set within the context of an upper level trough (i.e. an area of lower than average pressures aloft, which fosters inclement weather).
This system will create enough lift with enough moisture to produce some widely scattered showers, and we can’t rule out a downpour or a thunderstorm, especially east of the I-91 corridor where the best lapse rates will reside thanks to the core of an upper cold pool swinging through NH, CMass, and points east.
The Berkshires could see some showers too, but less of a chance there.
For tonight, clouds will clear, wind will be calm/light, and it will be quite dry, which allow anomalous radiational cooling to set up with temps plummeting to the low 50s, and we can’t even rule out a few upper 40s readings in northwest MA and southern VT. Quite chilly for late July standards!
On Saturday, we’ll enjoy a gorgeous weekend day, just lovely. Despite a sprinkle or two possible by afternoon given the persistence of mid-level moisture in this trough, it should be mostly sunny, dry and with highs in the mid 70s to low 80s. By the night time, clouds will build as a warm front approaches, helping to kick surface high pressure off to the east.
Humidity will increase after midnight, clouds will thicken, and showers will arrive during the pre-dawn hours.
A decent slug of rain will push through the region Sunday morning, with up to half an inch or maybe even three-quarters of an inch of rainfall by noon on Sunday, so don’t water your gardens Sunday morning, Mother Nature will do it for you.
In addition, enough parameters may align to produce some strong to isolated severe thunderstorms on Sunday, so I will update on that as we move through the weekend. Damaging isolated wind gusts would be the main impact if any should develop, and the SPC has posted a Marginal Risk for Sunday.
Highs will be in the 70s, and while the main rain shield moves through Sunday morning, we can expect scattered showers during the afternoon and evening. Lows will be in the mid 60s and it will be muggy.
Early next week looks like plenty of sunshine will rule our roost, and it will be very warm and humid… nice summer days actually! Highs should reach the low to mid 80s Monday and Tuesday with plenty of sunshine with lows near 60º as high pressure passes through for a couple of days.
But, long-duration high pressure areas are not the pattern we’ve entered, so another area of low pressure with its frontal boundary will push into the region by Wednesday or Thursday morning with another good slug of rain possible before we dry it out toward next weekend.
Have a great day, and if you have outside events today, keep an eye to the northwestern sky for any darkening clouds!
