Western Mass Weather for January 24, 2021

[BLUSTERY AND COLD THIS MORNING, WIND SLACKEN TONIGHT… FAIR WEATHER TOMORROW WITH SNOW SHOWERS OR LIGHT SNOW ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON INTO THE EVENING WITH VERY LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS POSSIBLE… FAIR AND SEASONABLY COLD THROUGH THE WEEK, THOUGH NOW ANOTHER COLD SHOT FOR FRIDAY LOOKS POSSIBLE… WATCHING FIRST OF THE MONTH FOR A WINTER STORM BEFORE A POSSIBLE MILDENING… 6:55AM SUNDAY]

Good morning folks, I hope you slept well. I am going to jump into the details below and tap away on my keyboard.

SUMMARY
–It’s cold out there, temps in the single digits to teens
–The overnight wind kept temps from dropping too much
–Wind gusts still blowing to 30mph occasionally out there
–Wind chills are almost to 10 below zero in the Berkshires, and more like singles above to singles below zero elsewhere
–Today is mostly sunny and blustery, with a few clouds over the high terrain west of I-91, highs reach the upper teens to mid 20s
–For tonight winds should slacken with time, and lows should dip into the mid singles to low teens from high terrain to low under mostly clear skies
–Monday looks like a lovely late January day with highs in the mid 20s to low 30s, light wind, mostly sunny skies and dry
–Lows will dip into the 15-20º range as clouds thicken
–On Tuesday, a storm will be tracking to our south, suppressed by blocking high pressure to our north
–However, the upper level low will weakening as it passes through the Great Lakes region, and this should produce a period of very light snow in our region, or snow showers capable of laying down a coating to an inch or so Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night
–Highs on Tuesday will reach the upper 20s to low 30s and lows will be in the low to mid 20s as any snow quits
–For Wednesday and Thursday, we’re looking at more clouds than sunshine and milder temps, with highs in the low to mid 30s and lows in the low to mid 20s, with dry conditions
–On Friday, another brief cold shot moves in behind a powerful low pressure system that will likely bring snow to the Mid-Atlantic region, but be too far south for us
–This system rips east like a bowling ball, and pulls colder air down into New England on Friday, with highs in the low to mid 20s, and lows in the single digits to low teens
–Next weekend looks a bit milder, but still seasonably cold, and then we look to the first of the month, when signals are starting to show coastal storm potential, after which a mildening is possible

As always, we shall see. Hope you have a great day.
