Good afternoon everybody, we have a very humid day on tap for today, with dewpoint temps pushing 70 degrees. Along with this, a shortwave is pushing into Western Mass, and bringing with it plenty of moisture and some instability as well.

All of this will combine to foster convection over our region today, resulting in showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.

Some of these storms could be strong to severe. This will partially depend on how much sunshine we see today, which allows for surface heating, giving rise to, well, more rising air in the form of convection. The temps aloft are what they are, and as the surface heats, the gradient from surface to sky steepens, resulting in a higher “lapse rate”, which forms storms.

The biggest threat with these storms today would be torrential downpours and damaging gusty winds. Hail is not out of the question, but not forecast at the moment.

There is already a large plume of showers and storms out of central and eastern NY, and northern Berkshire county could see some weather in the early afternoon. Because of the southwest-to-northeast axis of the precip, areas to the south and east will see showers/storms later.

After tonight, we could see more showers and storms in Western Mass tomorrow, but the strongest weather will be to our south and east. On Tuesday evening we could see even more showers and storms, before drying out for late week.

Temps will be in the 80s for the duration. Next weekend could see some shower activity as well.

Have a great Sunday!
