Good morning everybody, the heat and humidity are on the rise today and tomorrow ahead of a cold front that will be sweeping this air mass out to sea on Thursday morning.

Temps today will get up into the upper 80s for highs, and won’t settle down much past the mid 60s this evening, with increasing humidity. Heat and mugginess will peak out tomorrow with dew points above 70 degrees, and air temps (also known as the “dry bulb temperature”) reaching 90 degrees in spots.

In addition, we will have moderate amounts of instability in the atmosphere above us. This coupled with some wind shear (remember shear refers to winds that change speed and/or direction, with height), lift provided by an approaching cold front, and plenty of low-level moisture, will provide us with the ingredients for a round of strong to severe thunderstorms late tomorrow afternoon and in the evening.

A pretty strong squall line could form, so keep your eyes to the west and northwest tomorrow afternoon for darkening skies and the sounds of thunder.

This front will clear our area sometime on Thursday, which could also feature a shower or two earlier in the day. Then the second half of Thursday through the first half of Sunday looks very nice and pleasant with highs near 80 degrees and drier conditions.

Next week a southwest flow returns, and we could see several days of unsettled weather with showers and thunderstorms, but at the moment no heat is set to return like we’ll experience tomorrow.

Have a great day!
