Western Mass Weather for September 29, 2019

SANDWICHED BETWEEN A MID LEVEL LOW IN NORTHERN HUDSON BAY CANADA AND A MID LEVEL HIGH IN THE NORTHERN GULF OF MEXICO, OUR RESULTANT NORTHWEST FLOW COOLS US TODAY AND TOMORROW… AFTER A TWO-DAY WARMTH RESURGENCE BY MID WEEK, AUTUMN WEATHER ARRIVES WITH LORENZO’S HELP…. (7:10am Sunday)

Good morning everybody, we’ve got some substantial weather changes on the way for the WMass region and whether or not it lifts or depresses your mood, my job is to keep you informed, updated, and ehead of the incoming curve.

We’re starting off mild this morning, with many folks in the 50s and 60s. The cold front is actually pushing through the region as I type on its way to the North Atlantic Ocean, so temps haven’t really dropped a whole lot overnight.

Because of the front, they won’t come up all that much as our Sunday turns from morning to afternoon to evening.

Northerly flow will kick away any morning clouds, and a mostly sunny day will develop with highs in the mid 60s to low 70s as dewpoints and humidity decreases through the day and overnight.

It is tonight when we’ll notice the cooler, drier air behind the front, and you can expect lows to drop to the 35-40 degree range under mostly clear skies and light winds, allowing for maximized radiational cooling.

High pressure moves east through northern Maine on Monday, producing mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 60s with lows in the upper 40s as cloud cover increases. Humidity will stay low.

For Tuesday and Wednesday, the southeastern U.S. ridge flexes one more time as high pressure in the east Pacific feeds northwesterly flow into a trough and lower pressures out west, also helping to flex the aformentioned ridge.

This will direct moister southwesterly flow into New England during this period, and as a result, we’ll see dewpoint and air temps rise up once again.

As a warm front gets pushed through the region Tuesday a few showers are possible early Tuesday morning. Otherwise, expect a partly sunny day with highs well into the 70s on Tuesday and lows in the low 60s with more scattered showers possible.

Wednesday is our peak warmth day over the next 10 days. While it will be similar in warmth to yesterday, it will be mostly cloudy and showery, with downpours possible as a strong cold approaches the region. Highs will be in the low 70s in SVT to the low 80s in the valley and northern CT. Lows will drop into the 40s overnight.

After that, the late summer pattern finally breaks down.

The jet stream will be migrating further south, and cooler Canadian air will sink further south and squash the southeast U.S. ridge and completely flatten it, shunting it south into the Gulf of Mexico.

Northwest flow will develop, and a shortwave may move through Thursday afternoon into Friday bringing a cold rain with highs only in the 50s from Thursday through Sunday, and lows in the 30s during that period.

Take out the ACs, pull out the cool weather clothes, and get ready for a step down into Autumn.

Yes, we will have some warmer reprisals at times, it’s the weather, it ebbs and flows, but as you can see in the attached 8-14 day NOAA outlook, we should be below normal with respect to temperatures through the next 2 weeks.

It’s going to be a gloriously beautiful day today. You’re alive if you’re reading this, and if you’re not working, hopefully you can choose something enjoyable to do – read a book, take a walk in the woods, snap some photographs, spend time with friends and family, play and make music, work on your car, whatever it is.

Some day, none of us will be here, regardless of the reasons why we’ll each leave the building.

Given this reality, in my opinion, your charge in Life is to share and spread Love with those in your life and come in contact with, to be helpful in the ways you can.

So I say take up your charge today, be kind, and enjoy your SunDay!
