Western Mass Weather for September 12, 2019

WETTER THURSDAY THAN EXPECTED YESTERDAY… REMNANT CONVECTION FROM UPPER PLAINS ALONG WITH SLOWER COLD FRONTAL PASSAGE FROM NORTH TO SOUTH BRINGS SHOWERS THIS MORNING, HEAVIEST ALONG/SOUTH OF RT. 2 CORRIDOR… MORE SHOWERS THIS AFTERNOON AS WE COOL DOWN… CRISP FALL DAY TOMORROW, MORE HUMID AND SHOWERY LATE SATURDAY WITH SUNDAY LOOKING LIKE THE PICK OF THE WEEKEND… (6:40am Thurs)

Good morning everybody, what a difference a day makes. Yesterday it appeared a spot shower in the morning was possible with clearing, but the cold front has slowed its track from north to south through the region.

At the same time, remnant moisture from a severe weather outbreak over the northern Plains has scooted east and underneath the southern part of incoming high pressure and an area of low pressure is developing along the front near NYC.

All of this to say, pack your rain gear today. It won’t rain all day long, but certainly this morning we have areas of moderate to heavy rain, and a rumble of thunder cannot be ruled out. Patchy fog is present for some this morning, as well.

We should get a bit of a lull later this morning, but more scattered showers will be possible this afternoon, as the front slowly sags south, and brings a cooling trend during the day.

Expect highs only in the low to mid 60s with lows tonight in the 40s as we clear out. Some patchy fog is possible late.

For tomorrow, a mostly sunny day is expected with highs in the mid to upper 60s with lower humidity, and lows will be in the mid to upper 40s.

By Saturday, we should expect higher humidity and mostly cloudy skies with a warm front passing through. Showers will be possible later in the afternoon and evening, and highs will reach the upper 60s to low 70s with lows in the 50s.

Sunday certainly looks like the pick of the weekend, with mostly sunny skies, and highs in the mid to upper 70s.

There is uncertainty about Monday, in that more showers might be possible if a shortwave tries to form and move through the region, but for now the early week period looks seasonably warm and fair.

By late next week, we could see a surge of warmth and humidity with highs cresting the 80 degree mark.

Have a great day and stay dry!
