Western Mass Weather for October 9, 2020

[SEE-SAW WEATHER AS FRONTS CRISS-CROSS THE REGION OVER THE NEXT WEEK FLIPPING THE FLOW… OF NOTE AFTER FROST MELTS THIS AM, IS A WARM SATURDAY WITH BREEZY SOUTHWEST WINDS WHICH WILL END IN THE EVENING WITH SOME SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS MAINLY IN NORTHWEST MA AND SVT… COOLER SUNDAY, THEN SHOWERS COULD ARRIVE BY MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY WITH HURRICANE DELTA’S RAINY REMNANTS… 15000 HOUSEHOLDS IN CMASS AND WMASS STILL WITHOUT POWER AND 50000 IN THE TWO NY COUNTIES WEST OF THE NORTHERN BERKSHIRES… 7:20AM FRIDAY]

Good morning everybody, the clean up continues from our wind damage the other day, and there are still a number of people without power as restoration services have to take place in the times of Covid-19 with fewer servicefolks assigned per truck (as I understand it).

This is our new reality, so whenever I mention power outages are possible (even if isolated or scattered), it’s important to ensure you enact a plan to handle outages for longer-than-normal timeframes going forward.

Obviously, it’s been a rough period for those without power still given how cold it is this morning. I’m hoping you all get power restoration soon, hopefully today!

As for our upcoming weather, I am going to bulletize, double-dash, and otherwise engage list making below to get the salient weather points transmitted forthwith.

SUMMARY
–We’ve got early morning frost patches with some folks bottoming out in the upper 20s to low 30s, and others in the mid 30s or above
–Any morning clouds in spots will give way to a mostly sunny day as high pressure scoots off the Jersey coast south of New England today, turning our flow southwest tonight and tomorrow
–Highs will reach the upper 50s to low 60s today
–Lows tonight in the mid to upper 40s under mostly clear skies
–Tomorrow, southwest flow becomes strong with wind gusts over 20mph at times, and highs will soar into the mid to upper 70s for one day under mostly sunny skies with some clouds building in from the northwest late in the day
–A cold front will be tracking southeast into the region late in the day
–This will bring some scattered showers and thunderstorms to the region, but given that best lift and dynamics will be well north of us, it looks like the Route 2 corridor and points north will stand the best chance for any scattered showers or storms
–Given strong wind shear expected, a storm or two may become strong or severe
–Lows Saturday night will bottom out in the upper 40s to low 50s
–For Sunday, the see saw continues, and we’re back to a Fall feel, with highs in the low to mid 70s under mostly sunny skies, with lows in the low to mid 40s
–For Monday, it will be cool, and while some sunny periods are possible early, clouds will be building
–Highs will be in the upper 50s to low 60s and a few showers are possible late. Lows will be near 50º
–The best chance for showery activity from the remnants of Delta will be Monday night into early Wednesday as it combines with a front during the latter part of that period
–Expect unsettled conditions during that timeframe, and I will refine as we get closer
–High temps look to crest into the mid to upper 60s during Tuesday/Wednesday, and hopefully we will get some sunshine back in here by Thursday, with cooler temps by end of the week

Have a great day!
