Good morning everybody, our storm, while a mild impact event for the WMass region turned out to overcompensate in southeast MA with many reports of wind gusts between 70-100mph, and over 425000 without power (including 75% of Plymouth County!!!). We do have one more band of ocean showers with some gusty winds moving into parts of CMass and eastern Hampden County so a few more outages are possible this morning before we calm things down.

Before we leap into the details below, please check out a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo

DISCUSSION:
Good morning everybody, the main thing to note this morning is that I thought our storm would come west a bit more, just south of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, and then dive southwest, south and pull away, but that did not happen. It dove southwest sooner, and that’s part of why we only maxed out at 45mph wind gusts, though I had said we’d see 25-50mph gusts.

However, the 50-60mph gusts didn’t materialize in CMass and northeast CT overnight, nor did the Berkshires or much of Franklin County (unless at elevation) get too much wind.

Our storm is sending its final bands of rain and wind northeast to southwest through MA, RI and eastern CT this morning, so some additional outages are possible, and I have noticed an increase in outages already this morning in Worcester and Hampden Counties.

Some folks may be seeing their strongest gusts of the storm early this morning, in fact.

As the day wears on, rain showers will come to an end by about noon, give or take, and gusts will relax, though we can’t rule out gusts out of the north to 30mph or so this afternoon.

Expect mostly cloudy skies and highs in the low to mid 50s with lows in the mid 30s to low 40s as skies begin to break up and reveal a few stars overnight.

Thursday and Friday are looking like a much calmer, and more lovely end to the work week with high pressure ridging in ahead of our next rainstorm which moves through on Saturday and Saturday night, with much less wind energy.

We’ll enjoy mostly sunny skies Thursday with highs in the low to upper 50s and a light northeast wind.

It will be frosty Thursday night with lows in the upper 20s to low 30s from southern VT down into the Pioneer Valley of WMass, with some mid 30s down in north-central CT.

Friday will feature more clouds as a system starts working in from the west, but we should still manage a partly sunny day with highs in the low to mid 50s and lows in the 40s as clouds thicken and showers arrive after midnight.

For Saturday and Saturday night, we’ve got another bout of rain to contend with, as the storm that pummeled the west coast will be tracking just west of us which will produce milder temps over the weekend before our temperatures sit right back down again early next week.

Expect periods of showers, some heavy, on Saturday and Saturday night as the warm front lifts through and our storm tracks nearby.

Highs will reach the mid 50s to low 60s on Saturday with highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s on Sunday!

Sunday will feature some morning showers as our storm pulls away, but the afternoon should be a drying period, just in time for Halloween activities.

Early next week, at the moment, looks fair and cooler, with highs in the low to mid 50s and lows in the 30s.

Have a great day, and please post any weather reports for your neck of the woods below, as I am especially interested in areas east of the I-91 corridor and south of the Rt. 9 stretch in Worcester County.
