Western Mass Weather for October 26, 2019

MORNING PATCHY FOG WILL BURN OFF AND REVEAL A BEAUTIFUL DAY… CLOUDS BUILD BACK IN FROM THE SOUTH TONIGHT, AND WE CAN EXPECT SCATTERED SHOWERS AND (AT TIMES) STEADY RAIN FROM ABOUT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO MIDNIGHT TOMORROW NIGHT… MORE CLOUDS THAN SUN NEXT WEEK WITH EASTERLY FLOW AND PERIODS OF DRIZZLE, SCATTERED SHOWERS, WITH SOME SUNNY BREAKS, TOO… HEAVY RAIN POSSIBLE BY LATE WEEK… MY 2020 WEATHER WALL CALENDAR MAKES A GREAT LOCAL GIFT THIS HOLIDAY SEASON… (9:05am Sat)

Good morning everybody, we’ve got temps in the upper 30s to 40s out there, and we’ll see highs climb into the mid to upper 50s today, with a few spots hitting 60 degrees under mostly sunny skies (after any fog burns off, of course).

Low pressure is barreling north-northeastward, destined to track somewhere through Lake Erie or maybe as east as Lake Ontario in the eastern Great Lakes tomorrow.

This storm is juicy, and is transporting copious levels of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and preparing to dump some of that over southern New England tomorrow on Soupday, I mean NoSunForUsDay.

As thee storm tracks well northwest of us, it will form a secondary storm that runs right through southeast New England.

With high pressure overhead today that tracks east to the Canadian maritimes for tomorrow, the resulting easterly and southeasterly flow from the high to our northeast and the developing low to our south will create strong southeasterly wind gusts between 25-35mph in the lower terrain, but up to 45mph in the high terrain and east-facing slopes of the Berkshires, western/eastern hilltowns, and southern VT.

In addition, a strong southerly jet streak (i.e. a faster moving river of air a mile up from the surface) will blow over 60mph, which will cause strong lift, creating heavy rain at times tomorrow.

Finally, with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s, we can see that tomorrow will be a good day to be indoors, puttering, making soup, reading, writing, creating, tinkering, and relaxing. If you gotta be up and out, rain gear will be your friend.

Showers in the morning move to heavier rain in the afternoon and evening, and should generally taper before midnight, though a few showers are possible until midnight, with lows in the low to mid 40s.

Monday should be partly sunny with brief ridging moving in with highs in the upper 50s.

Tuesday through Friday will feature an onshore flow, more clouds than sun, mild temps in the upper 50s to mid 60s at times, as well as scattered showers.

Thursday into Friday may feature more of a widespread rainfall as a storm rapidly deepens to our northwest, and at this point, I believe it’s going to cool down behind that storm for next weekend.

Have a great day and get your soup-making accoutrements ready!
