Western Mass Weather for October 12, 2018

(7:10AM Fri) RAINFALL IN PARTS OF CENTRAL/EASTERN HAMPDEN AND HAMPSHIRE COUNTIES AND ESPECIALLY NORTHEAST CT AND S. WORCESTER COUNTY PULLS AWAY TO THE EAST WITH MICHAEL’S REMNANTS AS GUSTY NORTHWESTERLY WINDS UP TO 30-40MPH BLOW IN LATER THIS MORNING AS DEEPER AUTUMN ARRIVES…

Good morning everybody, you can feel the change in the air this morning!! Drier and cooler air is being drawn in as Michael’s extratropical remnants bring some generally light to moderate rains to areas mainly south of Rt. 9 and east of I-91, with the steadiest rain as mentioned in prior days being down in northeast CT to near Worcester, MA.

This rain shield will continue steadily off to the east-northeast, and we will see gradual clearing here today with highs in the mid 50s to possibly 60 or so in valley locations.

However, as the storm departs, the gradient between it and incoming high pressure will cause winds to gust up to 30-40mph out of the northwest as Canada empties its Autumnal air mass across the entirety of New England. Open up and breathe in the freshness later today!

Expect lows tonight to be either side of 40 degrees with clouds increasing again.

Unfortunately, another disturbance will move through tomorrow morning bringing patchy fog early and then mainly a light rain shield that could last into early afternoon before we dry out again. It should be mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s, with some sunny periods developing later in the afternoon.

Winds slacken and we clear out, which sets up ideal radiational cooling and so lows should plummet into the mid 30s for the coldest night in a long time. Frost will be possible and I’ll update if any advisories are posted.

Sunday is the pick of the weekend with mostly sunny skies, calm weather, and highs in the 50s as high pressure crests overhead, great for foliage viewing! Lows Sunday night will be in the low 40s as clouds increase again ahead of another low pressure system that will pass to our northwest early next week.

We should see some showers early next week by Monday night some snowflakes may mix into the higher terrain. In general, highs will be in the 50s next week with lows either side of 40 degrees with sunshine by Tuesday afternoon.

Fall, meet everybody, everybody, meet Fall!
