Good morning everybody, man was it cold first thing this morning, and still is! Brrrrrr!

While some clouds will develop this afternoon, we should be mostly sunny on average, thanks to high pressure to our south tracking east and off of the Mid-Atlantic coastline.

This will turn our wind to a light southerly flow, but it’ll still be cold for another day, with highs in the mid to upper 30s, and lows in the low 20s under mostly clear skies with a few more clouds in the high terrain west of the CT River.

For Sunday, we’ll milden right up with highs well into the 40s and partly sunny skies. I think there could be more clouds than sun, but we’ll call it partly sunny for now. Southwest winds could gust to 20mph in the high terrain of the WMass region.

Clouds increase Sunday night and a few rain or snow showers are possible in southern VT and the northern Berkshires.

A very powerful surge of cold air will be diving south-southeast out of the Hudson Bay area of Canada. This is due to a strong upper level ridge near Alaska, the clockwise flow of which is forcing air out of the Arctic, down into Canada and the northeast U.S.

For Monday, this cold air will be knocking on our regional door, and a cold front will be laid out from southwest to northeast in orientation, and pressing into NY state.

It’s possible that some rain and snow showers will already be entering the northern Taconics and southern VT with temps in the 30s, while the rest of our region into the CT River Valley sees a mostly cloudy day with a few sunny breaks and highs in the 45-50 degree range.

That’s how it looks now.

By Monday night, things get more interesting for SVT, the Berkshires, western hilltowns and into SW.NH.

The cold front will be on its approach, and low pressure should be induced to form along it as the upper level energy gets closer to us.

This will cause rain scattered showers to form in the valley which should be mixing with or changing to snow and ice in the areas mentioned above.

Lows should reach the upper 20s to low/mid 30s.

By Tuesday morning, we could have some slippery road ways during the commute in those aforementioned high terrain areas as mixed rain, ice and snow continue there, with some wet snow mixing with rain in the valley with no accumulation expected at the moment. Highs should reach the low 30s to 40 degrees across the region, so precip type will be tricky to call the further north and west you go in the WMass region.

By Tuesday night, a coating to 2-3″ is possible in those high terrain areas.

The big headline, though?

Brutal Cold be just emptying out of its Canadian belly into southern New England on strong northwest winds gusting to 30mph, and dropping temps into the low to mid teens with wind chills down to 0 degrees possible!

Wednesday is basically a mid-Winter day!

Under mostly sunny skies, highs will only be in the mid to upper 20s with northwest winds gusting to 40mph, it will just be bitterly cold, so you will need to bust out the deep winter gear, my friends.

You have been forewarned.

Wednesday night sees high pressure press over head, dropping winds, and with clear skies, allowing temps to plummet down into the upper single digits to mid teens across the region.

The best chance for record lows will be Wednesday night/Thursday morning.

We’ll have fair weather to end the week, and temps will moderate through the 30s for highs on Thursday, and then the 40s on Friday.

Have a great day, stay warm, and check out my 2020 Weather Calendar, it’s a great way to get some of your holiday shopping done while supporting my work here, if you feel it’s worthy of support.
