Western Mass Weather for November 18, 2019

[RAIN, ICE AND SNOW TONIGHT INTO TUESDAY MORNING] PATCHY FREEZING DRIZZLE IN EASTERN HALF OF WORCESTER COUNTY DOWN INTO NORTHEAST CT, OTHERWISE MOSTLY DRY THIS MORNING THOUGH CAN’T RULE OUT A PATCH OF DRIZZLE OR FREEZING DRIZZLE IN THE HIGH TERRAIN… ISOLATED LIGHT SHOWERS THIS AFTERNOON AND MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES GIVE WAY TO RAIN, ICE AND SNOW TONIGHT INTO TUESDAY MORNING WITH VERY LIGHT HILLTOWN ACCUMULATIONS EXPECTED… (6:50am Monday 11/18/19)

Good morning everybody, aside from a few areas (especially back east in Worcester County and northeast CT where some patchy freezing drizzle has been noted) we’re basically dry to start the morning.

While we can’t rule out a few areas of freezing drizzle or plain drizzle (temps are in the upper 20s to mid 30s), there’s not a lot of weather variables combining to produce much precip, if at all. Plus, our storm is well southeast of us, and will track into western Nova Scotia.

It should impact EMass with some showers today and wind, but for us, maybe we gust to 20mph and see a patch of drizzle or freezing drizzle, with mainly dry and cloudy conditions through mid/late afternoon.

Highs will reach the mid to upper 30s.

However, by tonight, our negatively-tilted upper level storm system (which never really “caught” our ocean low and pulled it back west towards us) will be tracking northeast through the region.

This will cause scattered showers and drizzle in the low terrain, and areas of freezing rain and freezing drizzle to form in the high terrain to overspread the region after sunset and through the night.

As this happens, colder air will be sweeping into the system as it tracks through.

This will cause some areas in the Taconics, Berkshires, Litchfields, SVT and western hilltowns to mix with and/or change to sleet and snow after midnight and into Tuesday morning. Some patchy fog is possible.

Lows will be in the low 30s.

A coating to maybe an inch is possible in the Berkshires and other high terrain areas of southwestern New England.

Any precip gets out of here by mid to late morning Tuesday, and we should be left with a mostly cloudy day with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s, and lows in the upper 20s to low 30s.

For Wednesday, we should see more clouds than sun, though a few breaks are possible, especially west of I-91. Highs will be in the upper 30s to low 40s with lows in the upper 20s.

Thursday is our pick of the week for sure, with mostly sunny skies, brief high pressure building through, and highs in the low to mid 40s.

Thursday night into Friday will see a storm tracking to our north, dragging a cold front with some showers through the region into Friday.

Saturday looks like the pick of the weekend with mostly sunny skies and highs 35-40 degrees, with more showers possible Sunday as a fairly active pattern sets up, though with storms and frontal passages that aren’t hugely impactful.

Have a great day, and huge thanks to everybody how ordered my 2020 Weather Wall Calendar!!!! <3
