Good morning everybody, it’s cold out there this morning with may in the upper teens to 20s, with a few low 30s around.
As high pressure passes south of us from west to east, it will place us in a southwesterly flow, which will allow high temps to reach the 40s today under mostly sunny skies. Southwest wind gusts of 15-20mph are possible.
A strong Arctic cold front blows through tonight, but will be losing moisture as it does so, so it should it be a dry frontal passage. A few snow showers north of Rt. 2 are possible. Lows plummet into the mid teens overnight.
For Saturday, we’ve got a cold but fair day on the way. Expect highs in the upper 20s for SVT and the high terrain to the low to mid 30s in WMass and points south and east into CMass and northern CT. Lows will be very cold again, dipping into the low to mid teens.
For Sunday, highs will be a bit milder, but still cold, only reaching the mid to upper 30s under partly to mostly sunny skies.
Then all eyes stare south at a coastal storm that will be forced more northerly thanks to high pressure wrapping around to its east, cradling it and tucking closer into the New England coastline.
Our temps in the WMass region should drop into the upper 20s to low 30s before precipitation moves in late Sunday night into the pre-dawn hours of Monday morning.
****With some milder air aloft, this should allow for the formation of a period of freezing rain (i.e. ice glazing) over the region, which could cause problems with travel very early Monday morning, so stay tuned for updates on this potential icing event.****
Any ice should change to plain rain by afternoon with highs in the mid to upper 30s, but some wraparound moisture at night could bring in some mixed precip showers with lows near freezing.
Tuesday through Thursday puts us in a more seasonable, 40-45 degree range for highs and near freezing for lows, withs some more showres possible by Wednesday.
