Good morning everybody, it’s generally in the 30s out there, but some upper 20s to low 30s are observed in northern Worcester County up into parts of southwest NH, as well as in eastern NY in the Taconics, and portions of Berkshire County and SVT.
In these areas, freezing rain is occurring, causing slick road ways for some. Rain is occurring in areas south and east of the aforementioned cold spots in our region.
Is anyone reading this seeing freezing rain or icing of any kind? Or possibly snow?
Please post your condition reports below.
Again, this isn’t a blockbuster storm, but it is the first chance this year for many to see icing and snow and ice with very light accumulations enough to cause slippery travel in spots.
Any freezing rain and rain should change to a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow, and (for a brief time) all snow or a snow/sleet mix as colder air moves through. It’s possible some lower valley areas (Springfield south) see mix of plain rain and snow.
It’s this brief changeover period where a coating to as much as inch of snow (with a little more possible in SVT, northern Berkshires, northwest hilltowns) is expected, with many just seeing coatings or even lighter dustings.
This will occur from west to east as the morning wears on, and should quit by mid afternoon.
The CT River Valley may end even earlier than mid afternoon as the lift associated with the cold front tracks east and dries us out in the valley, with snow/ice showers ongoing in the hills that flank either side of the valley.
Remember, the valley is where snow goes to die.

Winds picks up out of the northwest in the afternoon and evening, and will gust 25-35mph at times as temps plummet.
This is why the concern for a quick freeze on road ways (especially secondary roads) exists for black ice, so be alert.
Lows will end up in the single digits to low teens with wind chills either side of 0 degrees tonight and early in the morning.
After setting a few low temp records tonight, tomorrow we’ll set some more with record low max temps and highs in the mid teens in SVT to the low to mid 20s in many other spots (with some upper 20s from Springfield south and east in the region). At least it’ll be sunny!
Lows again will be in the upper single digits to low teens Wednesday night, then we milden into the 30s Thursday and 40s Friday with fair weather (but more clouds Thursday and more sun Friday).
We cool back down for a day on Saturday with highs in the 30s, then we begin a longer stretch of 40s and 50s into next week with some inclement weather possible early in the week.
Have a great day, and please post your condition reports below. Watch out for slippery road ways, the first slippery travel of the year can be the worst, even with very light accumulations, because people are not accustomed to driving on such surfaces yet!
