Good morning everybody, to start, are you seeing the headline above as bolded text? If so, I am considering changing my headlines to bolded sentence case, from normal all caps case.

If I do that, I may still use caps at times for salient points, but I am just checking in to see if this worked, to start.

Also, I want to extend my gratitudes toward the Veterans who have served in the ceaseless effort to keep us protected and safe here in the U.S.

As for our weather, we’ve have a few light spotty showers of rain south of Rt. 2, and a few flurries in southwest VT to start off the day.

I’ve written a bit of a book below, so I hope you can find 5 minutes to read it, and to let your friends and neighbors know, as well.

COMPLEX SETUP
–The atmospheric players involved in the weather we will see over the next 36 hours is complex to be sure
–A cold front dropping south through northern NY and northern VT will be moving very slowly
–That’s because the orientation of the front (west-southwest to east-northeast) is the general direction of the flow ahead of it (southwesterly)
–There is nothing at the moment to push it through the region
–That changes by tomorrow as low pressure develops along it to our southwest, and tracks right through central New England on Tuesday bringing a veritable potpourri of weather impacts and fast changes through Wednesday morning

SENSIBLE WEATHER IMPACTS
–Today will feature occasional light showers of rain south of the Rt. 2 corridor, with some mixed rain, sleet and snow north into it, especially in SVT/SWNH
–Highs will only be in the mid to upper 30s up that way, whereas we should reach the mid 40s or so south of Rt. 2 in the rest of WMass, CMass and northern CT (where temps may approach 50 degrees!)
–Expect mostly cloudy skies and light winds… for now
–Any precip will start to lift north of the Rt. 9 corridor in SVT/SWNH this evening, due to a deep trough plunging southward, and well west of our region
–This will act as to bend the orientation of the front from WSW to ENE, to more SW to NE
–This will keep precip in northern Bennington County and northwest Windham County on up into central and northern VT, where a major snowstorm will take place
–By the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday morning, all sorts of changes will be underway. Lows will be in the low to mid 30s
–Low pressure will be approaching western New England, and will finally drag the cold front through the region from west to east
–This will cause steadier rain, ice and snow to push through the WMass region on Tuesday morning
–Any rain or mixed rain, sleet and snow, should change to all snow or a mix of sleet and snow as Tuesday morning wears on, first occurring in SVT, the Taconics and Berkshires, then later in the Litchfields, western hiltowns, SWNH, WMass, northern CT and CMass
–Accumulations of 1-4″ still look like a good bet for many areas in southern VT, the northern Berkshires, and the Taconics of eastern NY
–Accumulations of a coating to 2″ looks good for the rest of the WMass region, including SW.NH, CMass, and northern CT
–With the exception of perhaps west-facing hills of Worcester County and eastern Franklin County, a coating to an inch should do it for most of us
–As this is happening, temps are dropping, folks
–Temps will drop into the upper 20s in the high terrain, and low to mid 30s in the valley locations during Tuesday

BLACK ICE POTENTIAL
–As temps plummet below freezing, with still wet road ways from snow, ice and rain, there is a chance that Tuesday afternoon, evening and night could cause black ice in many locations
–This is just a heads up to be alert to slippery driving conditions
–Temps will be dropping like a rock Tuesday evening, and will end up reaching the low to mid single digits in SVT and other high terrain areas, and IF WE’RE LUCKY the low teens elsewhere
–I wouldn’t be surprised if we all drop into the single digits by Wednesday morning
–This will set records for lowest minimum temps

WIND MAKES IT WORSE
–Now, while winds may gust to 20mph at times during the day on Tuesday, Tuesday night and Wednesday will be the worst of it
–Northwest winds will unleash this super cold air for this time of year on wind gusts of 25-35mph, with a few 40mph gusts possible Tuesday night into Wednesday
–Walking out the door on Wednesday morning, you MUST be prepared for weather that will feel like early February
–Wind chills may go below zero for a time
–Highs will only reach the upper teens to mid 20s region-wide
–This will likely set many records for the lowest max temperatures (max temps are also know as high temps… min temps are known as low temps in common speak)
–Wednesday night will see winds slacken, but lows will still be very cold, down in the single digits to teens
–Some lake effect snow showers may kiss the southern Greens, Taconics, Berkshires and Litchfields Wednesday
–Otherwise it will be mostly sunny east of the high terrain of WMass

ONE MORE COLD SHOT THIS WEEKEND
–Temps will milden up by Friday
–Thursday is still cold, with highs upper 20s to upper 40s region wide, with partly sunny skies
–Lows will be in the upper teens to mid 20s
–High pressure moves east, allowing us to milden into the 40s on Friday with mostly sunny skies
–Saturday sees one last cold front associated with this anomalous cold outbreak
–Highs will be in the mid 20s to low 30s, with highs in the 30s to near 40 on Sunday
–We have to watch for a possible storm by Monday, then we should see temps rise to more seasonable levels by next week

Have a great day today, and please remember that your orders of my 2020 weather calendars not only give you a local and colorful daily companion to track your life, or a gift to give to others this holiday season, but it also helps to support this community resource that is starting to approach a decade of service to you and yours.
