Western Mass Weather for May 9, 2021 (updated 7:20pm)

PM UPDATE: RAIN ARRIVES BY MIDNIGHT (7:20pm Sunday)
Good evening everybody, we have rain aloft over much of the region as of this writing, but it’s evaporating before reaching the ground due to very low relative humidity readings over much of the WMass region. The exception is western CT where we are starting to get some light rain reaching the ground, and possibly in some locations in the Berkshires.

Meanwhile in eastern NY, humidity is rising rapidly, so it’s just a matter of time before the rain gets into our region.

At this point, it looks more like 9pm-Midnight start, which is a couple of hours later than I originally thought.

Rain will fall steadily overnight, and we should see a quarter to half an inch north of the Route 9 corridor, with more like half to three-quarters of an inch south of there down into northern CT, with a few places approaching an inch possibly by the time the main rain shield gets out of here by early to mid Monday morning.

Lows will fall into the low to mid 40s.

A few spots showers are possible in the morning, but a partly sunny day should develop with highs in the mid 50s to low 60s.

Another upper wave brings some spot showers Monday night into Tuesday, but most of us should be dry with highs in the 50s to near 60º.

Then we get some truly sunny fair weather days Wednesday and Thursday.

Enjoy your evening, and again, Happy Mother’s Day to your Mom, to you as a Mom, and to your kids who may be Moms.

After all, without Moms, where would we be?

Nowhere, that’s where. <3 --------- MY MOTHER'S DAY GIFT TO YOU IS THAT IT APEPARS THAT A PATTERN CHANGE IS SLOWLY EMERGING TOWARDS WARMER WEATHER AND LESS FREQUENT RAINFALL IN THE SHORT-TERM... A BEAUTIFUL MORNING IS FOLLOWED BY INCREASING CLOUDS AND SHOWERS ARRIVING BETWEEN 7-10PM... RAINY NIGHT TONIGHT... RAIN QUITS BY EARLY TO MID MORNING... ISOLATED SHOWERS POSSIBLE MONDAY AFTERNOON AND TUESDAY, BREEZY... WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY ARE MILDER AND FEATURE SUNSHINE... LATE-WEEK SHOWERS POSSIBLE, BUT NEXT WEEKEND LOOKS GOOD SO FAR AND WE MAY REACH 70º... 7:50AM SUNDAY... Good morning everybody, what a gorgeous morning underway with sunny skies for just about everybody, except a few clouds over the northern Berkshires and southwest VT. Enjoy it, because a storm located over souther Illinois is in the march east-northeast and will spread its initial cloud cover overhead this afternoon. Highs will reach the upper 50s to mid 60s, so again, if you have any Mother's Day activities, you should be dry all the way through the 5-6pm timeframe, with sunshine through about noon, and clouds building thereafter. We might see some breezes out of the west kicking up to 10-20mph but no big whoop. For this evening, our storm starts making a beeline through the Ohio Valley and to the Mid-Atlantic coastline, and will produce showers across our region, beginning around 7pm-ish in the BLTs (Berkshires, Litchfields and Taconics) and spreading east-northeast into eastern CMass and northeast CT by about 9 to 10pm. It will rain all night as the storm tracks along the southern New England coastline, and lows will drop into the low to mid 40s with patchy fog possible. By mid-morning, we should generally have seen about a quarter to three-quarters of an inch of rainfall from north to south in our region (north being SVT and south being NCT), and we can't rule out some folks seeing an inch of rain under some of the heavier showers. Rain moves out by early to mid morning, as this is a progressive, fast-moving storm system. After a mostly cloudy morning, a partly sunny day should develop for at least the Pioneer Valley with more clouds over the western hilltowns and Berkshires, and we can't rule out some isolated pop-up showers in the afternoon and early evening. Highs tomorrow will only be in the mid to upper 50s with some low 60s possible. Clouds will try to break up Monday night, but expect more clouds than clear sky, with lows in the upper 30s to low 40s. Tuesday looks like a partly sunny day on average, with highs in the 55-60º range, periods of sunshine, and some pop-up instability showers thanks to a cold pool moving overhead, which is associated with what may be the last in a series of upper level colder-than-average mid-level troughs that have been swiping the region, helping to foster this rainier, cooler weather we've been having. #YouJustSurvivedRunOnSentenceFest2021 #Congratulations Lows Tuesday night will be chilly, with a very low chance at frost, with most of us bottoming out in the 35-40º range, but some low 30s can't be ruled out in northwest MA and southern VT/southwest NH. Wednesday and Thursday look GORGEOUS right now, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid 50s to low 60s Wednesday as our last colder trough lifts northeast and away, and fully into the 60s to near 70º on Thursday - the pick of the week! Lows will drop into the upper 30s to low 40s Wednesday night and low to mid 40s Thursday night. For astronomical viewing, Wednesday night looks the best chance for a mostly clear night, so prepare thy telescopes! By Friday, we have to watch for another potential storm system, but it doesn't look like an overly strong signal at the moment, and we may just end up with partly sunny skies and highs 65-70º both days, and maybe in the low 70s by next weekend? There's hope, so here's hopin', my friends!! Have a great day, and Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms out there! <3
