Western Mass Weather for May 7, 2021

FRI-6:50A: MOTHER’S DAY IS LOOKING GOOD FOR OUTDOOR PLANS… NICE DAY TODAY WITH A LATE-DAY SPOT SHOWER POSSIBLE… SATURDAY LOOKS COOLER AND MOSTLY CLOUDY, WITH SOME AFTERNOON SCATTERED SHOWERS… MONDAY LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER SOLID RAINFALL, THEN WE GET SOME FAIR WEATHER IN HERE FOR 3 DAYS… MORE RAIN POSSIBLE LATE NEXT WEEK INTO THE FIRST PART OF THE WEEKEND…

Good morning, peeps, it’s a bit chilly out there this morning! Not too bad in the Pioneer Valley with temps in the 40s, but we’ve got lots of mid to upper 30s either side of the valley, and as I had mentioned, some spots in the Berkshires, southern VT and southwest NH have dipped into the 30-32º range.

Temps will rebound under partly sunny skies today, reaching the upper 50s to mid 60s for highs. One region will be cloudy, the other sunny, with a patchwork sky as the day wears on. We can’t rule out an isolated shower near the end of the day, either, but we’re mostly dry.

For tonight, clouds continue to build as a frontal boundary and a couple of low pressure centers meander closer from NY and PA, while a coastal low will be tracking well east of us. Lows will be in the upper 30s to low 40s.

For Saturday, an easterly flow sets up between all of the aforementioned atmospheric players, with the WMass region a bit out of direct impacts from all of them, in a sort of doldrum zone.

Still, after a dry morning, some scattered showers will likely work east into the region from NY state, with some other light showers tracking westward off the coast in the easterly flow, so expect a few showers tomorrow afternoon.

Highs will reach the 50s, and after showers quit during the evening, lows will bottom out into the upper 30s to low 40s.

Mother’s Day (Sunday) looks gorgeous to be sure, with mostly sunny skies, light winds, and highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s – great for outdoor plans!

Yes, we can’t rule out a late day isolated light shower, but I think we’ll be dry for much of if not the entire day.

Then our clouds will thicken up as a storm approaches from the Ohio Valley, with lows dropping into the low to mid 40s.

Showers will arrive after midnight, and it will rain steadily and possibly heavy at times during Monday, so be ready to pack the wet weather gear if you’re heading out into the world Monday morning.

Highs that day will reach the 55-60º range with lows near 40º, and it’s possible we exceed an inch of rainfall from that storm.

Then we enter what hopefully will remain a 3-day fair weather stretch!

Tuesday through Thursday looks lovely, with highs in the mid 50s to low 60s under mostly sunny skies and lighter winds for Tuesday and Wednesday, and then well into the 60s for just about all of us on Thursday!

By end of day Thursday, clouds may be building back in response to another low pressure center that could bring more rain by Friday into early next weekend, but we’ll sort that out as we get closer.

In the meantime, enjoy today!
