Western Mass Weather for May 25, 2021 (updated 7:10pm)

PLEASE POST PICS OF FULL FLOWER SUPERMOON TONIGHT (IF SKY COOPERATES, MOON RISES IN THE SOUTHEAST, LOOK EARLY!)… PENUMBRAL ECLIPSE IN SOUTHWEST SKY AROUND 5AM OR SO… ISOLATED TO SCATTERED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE TOMORROW LATE AFTERNOON INTO THE EARLY EVENING… LOW CHANCE OF TORNADO… HEAVY RAINS FOR SOME, AND HAIL POSSIBLE… 7:05PM TUES…

Good evening everybody, just a quick update this evening to say that, first of all, be sure to watch the southeast sky as the sun is setting as our Full Flower Moon is rising at 7:31pm, in less than an hour!

If you get some clear shots, I would love to see some pics posted below if you’re up to it!

In addition, we have a Lunar Eclipse happening after midnight, but we will only briefly be within the Earth’s penumbra, which means we’ll only see a partial shadow from around 4:45am to 5:15am, before the Moon sets below the horizon in the southwest, before dawn tomorrow. Clouds may be an issue but if you are naturally an early riser, check it out!

For tonight, a warm front moves through the region, which will increase clouds and humidity. Lows will be in the upper 50s to low 60s.

For Wednesday, a hot and humid day is on tap!

Expect a partly sunny day and southwest flow, with breezes gusting up to 25mph at times, thanks to high pressure to our southeast pumping in the heat.

At the same time, a trough to our northwest will also aid in pumping in more moisture and heat, and a surface low to our north will send a cold front into our region, passing through after midnight during the pre-dawn hours of Thursday morning.

The positive aspect to our severe weather threat is that it is arriving late in the day, and in addition, the cold front will be further to the west. Without the full heating of the day, and without the powerful lift of the front, we MAY get away without any strong to severe thunderstorms and without the threats of hail, tornado, and straight line wind damage.

However, there are a few dynamics that will be in place, and so between 4-10pm is the time frame to watch out for potential severe weather, including the low chance for a tornado.

After 10pm and into the pre-dawn hours, we should see some additional scattered rain showers moving through with the actual cold frontal passage.

I will update again in the morning about our severe weather threat.

Thursday looks gorgeous, sunny, highs in the 70s, and Friday will be cooler, highs in the 60s with showers around, especially along/south of the Pike.

Despite some possible showers Saturday, we may end up with a partly sunny, dry, and seasonable Memorial Day Weekend, including Memorial Day, and hopefully that’ll be the case!

Have a great night, post those Moon pics tonight if you snap any, and check back with me in the morning regarding out severe weather threat.

Good night!

WARM AND SUNNY TODAY, INCREASING HUMIDITY TONIGHT, HOT AND HUMID TOMORROW, ESPECIALLY IN THE AFTERNOON WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS… HAIL AND ISOLATED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS WILL BE POSSIBLE… DRIER AND WARM THURSDAY, THEN WE WATCH A STORM TO SEE IF IT CAN PUSH SOME NEEDED RAINFALL NORTH INTO THE WMASS REGION (IT MAY STAY SOUTH OF US)… COOLER LATE WEEK INTO THE FIRST PART OF THE WEEKEND…6:50AM TUES…

Good morning everybody, we’ve got more seesaw weather on the way, so let’s jump right into the double-dashed rough sketches and dispense with the fluffernutter and peanut butter!

SUMMARY
–A bit chilly this morning, but we’ll put our adult suits on and face the cool nip!
–High pressure will continue tracking southeast of Cape Cod to a point south of Nova Scotia
–This will produce southwesterly flow into the WMass region, warming us into the mid to upper 70s for highs, with some reaching the low 80s
–Skies will be mostly sunny, with some fair weather clouds building
–Southwest winds will gust over 20mph at times
–Humidity will increase this afternoon and tonight, with lows dropping into the upper 50s to low 60s
–For Wednesday, low pressure well north of us will drag its attendant cold front through the region Wednesday night, but showers and thunderstorms will develop out ahead of it, and pass through between mid to late afternoon
–Humidity will increase, and with the southwesterly heat pump in full gear, highs will likely rise into the mid 80s to low 90s, with dewpoints climbing into the mid 60s or so ahead of the front
–An area of scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop in response, and some may become strong to even severe with potential for hail and isolated damaging wind gusts
–Showers and storms may linger until after sunset, and lows will hang near 60º
–After everything passes through to the east, we’ll see humidity slowly drop at night and on Thursday
–Thursday looks like a lovely high pressure day with mostly sunny skies, drier conditions, and highs in the mid 70s to low 80s, and lows in the 45-50º range
–On Friday I’ll be watching storm development to our west to see if tracks over the WMass region, or south of us
–At this point, some afternoon/evening showers look possible for areas south of the MassPike
–Honestly, the weekend doesn’t look totally clear yet, although temps look cooler with highs in the 60s on Saturday, and 60s and 70s Sunday and Memorial Monday
–Some scattered showers are possible, but we’ll need to get closer to dial it in

Have a wonderful day!
