Western Mass Weather for May 22, 2020

[SHOWERS, CLOUDS, AND COOLER TEMPS TOMORROW… REST OF MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND LOOKS PLEASANT… WE WARM INTO EARLY SUMMER CONDITIONS AS NEXT WEEK PROGRESSES WITH HUMIDITY BUILDING BY MID TO LATE WEEK… SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS NEXT SATURDAY AS A COLD FRONT COOLS THINGS DOWN A BIT INTO NEXT SUNDAY… 7:25AM FRIDAY]

Good morning everybody, our yellow-white star continues to steal the show these days, and while that’s great for many folks, especially for farmers and gardeners so we can get food production well underway, allergy sufferers are not having a good time.

Such is the ebb and flow of life, replete as we all know with wild swings of ups and downs, both collectively and personally.

I will detail our coming atmospheric attractions in a Summary below, but for today, as Horatio Sanz from Saturday Night Live so eloquently once stated it, the heat will most certainly be hot.

SUMMARY
–Sunshine rules again today, though some high clouds are expected late in the day
–High pressure continues to push southeast and away from New England as it weakens, and thus initiates southwest flow into the region, which for the WMass region, is the warmest wind direction
–Highs will reach the upper 70s in the high terrain to the mid 80s in the valley
–Lows will be mild tonight as clouds increase, only bottoming out in the mid to upper 50s
–As a storm that has rained out over Appalachia over the past few days is finally granted permission to begin its easterly track south of New England and out to sea, scattered showers will arrive after midnight tonight, mainly in northern CT and into southern sections of WMass
–You can see the swirl in the water vapor in the attached image… that will track east of NJ tomorrow
–For Saturday, it will be some 10-15 degrees cooler, with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s, cloudy, and showery
–Showers will be mainly relegated to south of the Rt. 2 corridor, and likely dry north of Rt. 2, with steadiest showers observed along and south of the Pike
–Lows Saturday night dip into the low to mid 40s as skies start to clear up
–The east flow that kept it cooler for Saturday, will be in place for Sunday as well, and so while a sunny day is expected, highs will still be in the upper 60s to low 70s, with lows in the mid 40s
–Memorial Monday will see mostly sunny skies and highs in the low to mid 70s and lows in the low to mid 50s
–Tuesday the heat really starts to rev up as a ridge builds to our south, off of the eastern seaboard
–This is the Bermuda high type setup that acts as a heat pump, and with highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s on Tuesday, and then mid to upper 80s Wednesday through Friday, we’ll be feeling like SUMMAH next week
–Some pop-up isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible mid to late week as humidity and instability increases
–We will have to watch for the timing of a cold front later on Saturday for the potential for another squall line of showers/storms to move through the region

Hope you have a good day!
