Western Mass Weather for May 15, 2018

(6:05pm Tues) STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED IN PARTS OF WMASS AND NORTHERN CT THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING… MAIN THREATS ARE DAMAGING STRAIGHT LINE WINDS WITH ISOLATED LARGE HAIL…. AN ISOLATED TORNADO CANNOT BE RULED OUT…

Good morning everybody, I will quickly bullet out the salient points below to get you on your way:

–Morning patchy fog will break up, and morning clouds should reveal sunny breaks later
–Highs will reach into the upper 70s to low 80s by this afternoon
–Humidity will build, and dewpoint temps should rise into the 60s with moist air advection ahead of a cold front that moves through later tonight
–A couple of periods of showers or a thunderstorm are possible by late morning through the middle of the afternoon
–A more robust squall line of showers, downpours and thunderstorms are expected late this afternoon into the early afternoon
–Given strong wind shear aloft with some veering/turning of wind with height at the lower levels of the atmosphere, some storms could become strong to severe
–With plenty of moisture pooling, some of these could be real rainers with downpours, damaging straight line winds, hail and frequent lightning
–An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, either
–The best chance for severe weather is in WMass and northwest CT, which may extend into SVT and CMass
–Any showers and storms should abate later tonight with lows in the low 50s
–Wednesday through Friday looks like fair weather with partly sunny skies and highs in the 60s Wed, 70s Thurs and 60s Friday
–Clouds build late Friday, and the weekend looks rainy at this point. More on that as we get closer

Stay tuned to the page for updates today, peeps, I will be monitoring the severe weather threat as the day wears on and reporting here.

Stay safe, keep an eye to the west, and have a great day!
