Western Mass Weather for May 13, 2021

A CHILLY MORNING LEADS TO A LOVELY DAY… THEN OUR FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY PERIOD WARMS NICELY WITH PLENTY OF SUNSHINE AND THE CHANCE FOR A SCATTERED AFTERNOON SHOWER OR THUNDERSHOWER EACH DAY AS THE DAY’S HEATING MAXIMIZES EACH AFTERNOON, THEN ANY SHOWERS DISSIPATE AT NIGHT… SATURDAY LOOKS LIKE THE WEEKEND PICK WITH A BIT MORE SHOWER POTENTIAL FOR SUNDAY AFTERNOON… TUESDAY AND BEYOND IS STILL UNCERTAIN… 6:50AM THURS…

Good morning everybody, it’s chilly out there! Temps have tumbled into the low to mid 30s in the Berkshires and southern VT with mid 30s to mid 40s elsewhere across the disparately-cooled region this morning.

I hope no one suffered a frost that negatively affected any of your veg or plants.

For today, temps will soar into the mid 60s to low 70s for highs with light northwest flow.

A huge ridge is developing over the center of the southern Great Lakes, but is really taking up residence over much of the middle third of the country. This will slowly drift east through the weekend.

With its clockwise flow, it will keep us in a drier pattern, but will prevent a massive warm-up.

In addition, it will be sending cooler air aloft through the region each day, and with the daily warming of the surface, each afternoon will feature the development of scattered cumulus clouds and a few isolated to scattered showers or even a thundershower. Any shower activity will dissipate in the evening, and the whole process will repeat through the Friday to Monday period.

Highs during this period will be in the upper 60s to mid 70s, generally speaking, so we’ve turned the corner temperature-wise, and we’ve finally exited the wet pattern that was bringing us all of our recent rainfalls.

Sunday may feature more in the way of clouds and showers, but I will have to update that as we get closer.

Tuesday into the middle of next week looks equally as warm and sunny, but the potential exists for a frontal boundary to focus more showers over us by Tuesday into Wednesday, and again, I will update that for you as we get closer.

Bottom line: much more pleasant weather is on the way, with less wind, warmer temps, and less rain.

What’s not to love?
