Western Mass Weather for May 11, 2021

THE SOAKENINGS HAVE LEFT THE BUILDING AT LEAST THROUGH THE WEEKEND, POSSIBLY LONGER… TODAY AND TOMORROW WE’RE STILL UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A COOL UPPER LOW WITH BREEZY CONDITIONS AND A FEW SPOT AFTERNOON/EVENING SHOWERS POSSIBLE EACH DAY, BUT NO BIG WHOOP… GORGEOUS THURSDAY… MORE PARTLY SUNNY-TYPE DAYS FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY WITH A FEW AFTERNOON POP-UP SHOWERS… WE WILL SURVIVE, WE WILL SURVIVE, HEY HEY! #OurWeatherIsGloriaGaynorApproved… 6:45am Tues…

Good morning folks, with our recent rains having been laid into the ground, The Greenening and The Growening continues as we work towards entering The Warmening!

The BulletizationMobile(TM) has parked itself on my roof this week, so being a fairly perceptive individual, I am going to take the hint and dash into the double–dashes below, lest TBM wakes up and starts honking its brains out at me, never a fun way to wake up!

SUMMARY
–We’re waking up to temps in the mid to upper 30s in some western hilltowns, Berkshire towns, and southern VT, with 40s elsewhere
–Our upper low system is parked over the Great Lakes and will meander generally eastward through northern New England and out of here over the next two days
–This will keep us in a cooler temp regime with highs in the mid 50s to low 60s each day
–In addition, with a well-mixed lower atmosphere it will keep northwesterly wind gusts blowing up to 20-30mph during the daylight hours, and slackening at night
–As an addendum to the previous addition, it will also allow for partly to mostly sunny skies, but with clouds building in the afternoon, along with a few scattered showers by late afternoon and early evening
–In other words, #NoBigWhoop
–Lows both nights will dip into the mid to upper 30s, and while frost isn’t expected, it can’t be 100% ruled out for everybody
–Again, once we get past early Thursday morning, I think given this slow pattern shift and the climatological reality that we’re just weeks away from the Solstice, I would say all plants could go into the ground, and if we get a rogue frost event, I’ll let you know ahead of time
–Once we get to Thursday, gorgeousness abounds
–High pressure kicks the upper low to the Canadian curb, and allows temps to warm into the mid 60s to low 70s under mostly sunny skies with lows in the low to mid 40s
–Friday through Sunday will feature partly sunny skies, generally, and highs in the mid 60s to low 70s, so a 10-degree difference from these current days we’re moving through
–There will be a chance for a spot shower with some instability each day, but they shouldn’t wet the ground that much, and be scattered in coverage, so again, no big whoop
–By early next week, we stay on the warmer side, and have to watch the progress of some frontal boundaries near the region to see if we get any shower generation from said features

No big rain storms in sight, no severe weather in sight at the moment (though a thunderstorm may be possible by next Tuesday), and no whack cold weather in sight.

*insert Mary Tyler Moore theme here*

Have a great day, folks!
