Western Mass Weather for May 10, 2021 (updated 7:35pm)

FROST ADVISORIES POSTED TONIGHT FOR BENNINGTON COUNTY AND WESTERN WINDHAM COUNTY IN SOUTHERN VT… 7:35PM MON…
Good evening everybody, we’ve got a few showers out there this evening, which will be winding down as the night wears on.

Lows will drop into the mid 30s to low 40s, but mid 30s can be low enough for frost to form, so elevations of 2000 feet and above in southern VT have been included in the Frost Advisory that lasts from 2am to 8am tomorrow morning.

An upper level low will track east-southeast into the region, which will allow for additional isolated showers to form in the afternoon tomorrow, with otherwise partly to mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid 50s to low 60s. It will be breezy with winds gusting to 25mph at times.

Showers, where they form, may last into the evening, and then we will have another cold night for the middle of May.

Lows will drop again into the mid to upper 30s, and a few low 30s may be possible.

Highs Wednesday under mostly sunny skies again rise into the mid 50s to low 60s as our upper low departs the region, but allows us to drop once more into the upper 30s for lows.

Thursday is warmer, and that lasts into the weekend.

So in closing this evening, the frost potential is for tonight and again Tuesday night into Wednesday dawn.

While Thursday morning may be chilly, I think we’ll past any low frost potential.

Have a great night!

AFTER THE SOAKENING LEAVETH, THE WARMENING COMETH… CLOUDS LINGER TODAY WITH A BIT OF DRIZZLE EARLY… A FEW SPOTS SHOWERS THIS AFTERNOON/EVE POSSIBLE… TUESDAY ALSO FEATURES ISOLATED SHOWERS AS A COLD POOL AND UPPER LOW MOVES THROUGH… WE INCREASE SUNNIFICATION ACTIVITIES WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY IS AGAIN THE PICK OF THE WEEK… FRIDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND COULD FEATURE POP-UP SHOWERS OR THUNDERSTORMS AS THE WARMENING COMMENCES AND WE START MOVING INTO DEEPER SPRING… 6:55AM MON…

Good morning folks, The BulletizationMobile(TM) is parked so far up my nostrils this morning honking like a pack of ducks on stimulants that I can’t even think straight! This means I will employ the incredibly useful but unfortunately un-trademarkable double–dashes below to disseminate our key weather points, forthwith!

SUMMARY
–Our storm is tracking east along the southern New England coast line and out to sea this morning
–Aside from a stray morning shower, the rain shield is long gone to the east
–It dropped anywhere from two-tenths of an inch of rainfall to just over an inch down in northern CT and everywhere in between across the WMass region overnight, a nice soaking
–Clouds will linger today, though a few sunny patches are possible later this afternoon
–This morning, a few drizzle patches are possible, but we will be drying
–Highs will reach the mid 50s to low 60s and lows will dip into the mid 30s to low 40s
–An upper level low and associated trough (likely the last in the old winter-type pattern we’ve seen recently) will swing through the Northeast U.S. tomorrow and depart on Wednesday
–This will bring colder air aloft, which will steepen lapse rates (the temperature gradient from milder surface to colder sky) and will produce some isolated showers Tuesday, mainly in the high terrain in the afternoon
–Highs will reach the mid 50s to low 60s with partly sunny skies on average (sunnier earlier, cloudier later)
–Northwest flow with the passage of this upper low will gust 20-30mph at times, so it’ll be a bit blustery
–At night, lows will drop into the mid 30s to near 40º, and a few rain showers may mix with snow in the southern VT region
–Wednesday looks partly sunny with highs again in the mid 50s to low 60s and breezy conditions with westerly gusts 15-25mph
–Lows will drop either side of 40º, with what now looks like the best night for any astronomical viewing under clear skies
–Thursday is the weekly pick, with sunny skies, calming winds, and warmer temps into the 65-70º range for highs, with lows in the low to mid 40s
–Friday looks equally warm, but we’ll be moving into a rather unsettled period with more humidity, and the potential for scattered pop-up showers or even a thunderstorm that afternoon, and into the weekend
–Temps continue in that 65-70º range, and we might even get a little warmer next week, as evidenced by the attached CPC graphic showing above average temps expected through the next 2 weeks, on average

I think we’re starting to turn the corner into deeper Spring, folks!

Have a great day!
