Western Mass Weather for March 20, 2021 (updated 6:55pm)

COLDEST NIGHT TONIGHT UNTIL POSSIBLY NEXT WINTER, BUT AT LEAST FOR OVER A WEEK FROM NOW… A KILLER WEEKEND LIES AHEAD, ALL OUTDOOR PLANS ARE A COMPLETE GO! (6:05PM FRI)

Good afternoon everybody, it certainly has been a chilly one but that strong March sun angle has helped temps get up into the mid 30s to low 40s (unless of course you were up on the spine of the southern Greens, which didn’t even hit 30º in a few spots!).

We also had a blustery day, especially in the morning, with wind gusts maxing out around 35mph at times.

Gusts are down to 20mph or so currently, and they will continue to wind down overnight, and become light late.

Under clear skies, we’ll get quite cold with lows in the low to mid teens generally across the region, with maybe a few upper teens readings in north-central CT.

After that, we’re off to the Spring races as our pattern switches into a more zonal flow with westerly or at times southwesterly flow, which taps warmer, land-based source regions and will allow our temps to come up across the board through the weekend and throughout all of next week into next weekend.

We’ve got 4 total gems for days coming up Saturday through Tuesday with sunny skies throughout.

Highs will reach the mid 40s to mid 50s from high terrain to low terrain, with lows in the upper 20s for Saturday and Saturday night.

Then Sunday through Tuesday features highs in the mid 50s to low 60s each day, and lows in the low to mid 30s throughout.

By mid to late week we should see some even milder temps, but also an increase in rain showers chances, with a potential soaker for Friday, but we’ve got several days of pure Spring joy on the way.

Enjoy it, and say goodbye to the Winter of 2020-2021.

———————————
Good morning everybody, quite the chilly start this morning but with high pressure moving into the region and our high March sun angle, temps will come up into the mid 40s to mid 50s for highs.

In fact, we may even see some upper 50s in spots near Springfield south and east into southern CMass and north-central CT.

Expect plenty of sunshine, and be sure to get outside and enjoy the Cosmos. We’re only here for a comparatively short time, so think about what a miracle it is that we can be conscious of that fact, and deeply enjoy this first day of the Spring of 2021.

For tonight, lows will be chilly, but not like this early morning!

Temps will bottom out into the upper 20s to low 30s in a few spots under clear skies, and light winds.

Sunday will be sunny and even milder with highs well into the 50s, possibly reaching 60º in a few spots, with lows near the freezing mark overnight under clear skies.

Monday and Tuesday (and their respective nights) look like copies of Sunday and Sunday night, so steady as we go, sailing into our new fling with our new Spring.

By Wednesday, we’ll be monitoring a warm front that will be floating into the region, and as such, it will spread clouds overhead, so we’re looking at a mostly cloudy day on average, with scattered showers possible by mid-afternoon or so. Highs will be in the 50s, and lows will dip into the low 40s as snow pack continues to melt away from this past Winter. A few more showers are possible at night as well.

For Thursday, we will be in the warm sector behind said warm front, and highs should respond, and jump up into the upper 50s to mid 60s from high terrain to valley areas under partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies.

Clouds should thicken at night with lows in the low 40s, and we’ll be watching the potential for an inside-running potent storm system (inside-running means one that tracks west of us, rather than south of east of us).

This storm could really wind up out of the center of the country and careen through the eastern Great Lakes sending a soaking rain through with potential for some wind thanks to a cold front passage, along with a few thunderstorms that can’t be ruled out.

Highs will still be well into the 50s on Friday, and mild temps should continue into next weekend.

Have a great day, folks, and remember that whether it’s a pet, a plant, or our people, when we support what we value, it grows… and when we don’t, it withers.

If you depend on my work, and if you’re able, I’m asking for your support in any amount today so that my Life’s Priority remains focused on you and yours 365 days/year in 2021 and into next Winter.
