Good evening everybody, I’m going to list out some of our salient points this evening with a comprehensive report to publish for tomorrow morning, and if you’re subscribed to my weekly newsletter, I will likely be sending a Sunday supplement out through Email World to cover my bases, as we have some dynamic and changeable wintry weather moving through the region over the next 3-5 days.
To the Summary!
SUMMARY
–Winds out of the west should be mostly light, breezy in a few spots, no big whoop, lows low to mid 20s under partly cloudy skies
–Sunday starts off calm, sunny, and seasonable, with highs in the mid 30s to low 40s
–By early afternoon, our second strong cold front is on the way into the region
–Isolated snow squalls will be possible
–Northwest winds pick up by afternoon, and will gust 35-50mph at times, providing for a wild post-meridian time span tomorrow
–Some isolated outages and tree damage possible
–Strong gusts will last through midnight, then throttle back and remain up to 35mph or so into the early morning
–Lows Sunday night are COLD, plummeting into the 5-10º range, maybe close to 0º in the southern Greens!

–With those wind gusts, wind chills are heading below zero, and we could even see Wind Chill Advisories hoisted for portions of northwest MA and southern VT by the NWS for the pre-dawn hours of Monday morning, it could be close
–Monday is Winter, highs in the mid to upper 20s, sunny, cold, breezy and gusts 20-30mph out of the northwest, slackening late
–Monday night is quite cold again, with lows in the singles to mid teens from high terrain to low
–Clouds increase Tuesday, and we could get a period of light snow or light snow/rain mixed Tuesday afternoon and evening
–We moderate temps a bit Wednesday and Thursday
–However, we have to watch track of another storm ejecting east-northeast out of the Mississippi Valley late Wednesday into early Thursday which could track south of us, and spread rain changing to snow into the region for Thursday afternoon and night
Have a great night, and watch for my report in the morning!

Good morning everybody, luckily we have only about 500 outages left in the region, but we certainly had some scary roars last night!! A few times I started to have visions of trees crashing through the walls.
Did you experience any wind damage? I hope everyone made it through ok.
Winds since midnight have mostly maxed out in the 35-40mph range, with some folks reaching up to 50mph.
If you have an anenometer, did you measure any peak wind gusts since last evening?
For today, we’ll enjoy another abundant day of sunshine, but it’s colder, with highs in the mid 30s to mid 40s. West winds will gust up to 30mph and slacken in the afternoon and be much lighter by tonight.
Lows tonight will be way colder than our recent taste of Spring, bottoming out in the low to mid 20s.
Remember to turn your clocks forward an hour if they don’t auto-adjust!
For tomorrow, we’ll have highs similar to today in the mid 30s to mid 40s from high terrain to low, but we have another Arctic cold front that will pass through the region, and this one could mean even more business than the one last night.
For one, it will have more moisture with it (possibly entraining some eastern Great Lakes moisture), and secondly, it will feature a colder air mass moving in, at the surface and aloft.
This means that thermal lapse rates (i.e. the air temperature gradient from surface to sky) will be steeper, and the lower mile to mile and a half our atmosphere should be well-mixed, so we should see some snow squalls develop, that may be little rainy downpours south of the Pike if it’s warm enough there.

These will move through by early to late afternoon, and some coatings are possible in the high terrain, and maybe even an inch up in the southern Green Mountains in southern VT.
Strong wind gusts will move in with these and behind the front, and temps and wind chills will truly plummet overnight.
Low temps are expected to drop into the 5-10º range under clearing skies. With wind gusts picking up again and gusting 35-50mph out of the northwest overnight and into early Monday morning, wind chills will be gnarly, dropping to near zero, down to 10 or even 15 below zero in the high terrain of northwest MA and southern VT/southwest NH.
Sorry for the tease, Spring lovers, but we’re not jumping from Winter to warmth here, not yet anyway.
After a brutally cold Monday morning, we will only rise up into the mid to upper 20s for highs on Monday, that’s it. At least we’ll feature mostly sunny skies as high pressure crests through the region, though it should still be blustery with northwest winds gusting to 30mph producing wind chills in the teens during the day.
These temps are 15-20º below average for the middle of March, for context.
Winds slacken at night and lows drop into the teens for one more very cold night, then we moderate a bit for Tuesday into Thursday.
A few showers are possible Tuesday afternoon and night with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s and lows in the 20s.
Wednesday and Thursday look milder with highs well into the 40s as southwesterly flow develops.
However this same southwesterly flow will send a storm system east-northeast toward the Mid-Atlantic states.
This low likely stays south of our region. At the same time, colder high pressure will start to press in from the northwest, supplying colder air that will be moving in behind the storm as it departs by Friday.
This could mean we see a rain-changing-to-snow event for Thursday night and we cannot rule out accumulating wet snow in the Berkshires, western hilltowns, northern Litchfields, and up into southern VT and southwest NH, and even along the entire Route 2 corridor in MA. More likely for the valley is a mix of rain and snow, but we shall see.
I’ve been watching this signal for days now, and it continues to portend wintry precipitation for SOMEBODY in our region, but we’re still many days away, so it’s just worth monitoring at this point.
I will keep you updated. Regardless of what happens with that storm system, colder air looks to move back into the region by next weekend as we continue to the battle of March with cold swipes from the northwest and milder surges from the southwest as the battle to switch the seasons is upon us for sure!
Have a great day, folks, and remember that whether it’s a pet, a plant, a garden, our key relationships, or resources we rely on, when we support what we value, those things and people grow and sustain.
